Stop Judging Boxers by What They Say

I'm tired of people judging boxers for their words instead of their actions. People these days get so worked up over every little thing public figures say. Whenever Mayweather, Kovolev, Broner, Tyson Fury, Mike Tyson or any other fighter says something "offensive" people get all worked up. All the sudden it becomes a huge ****ing deal and everyone rants on about racism or sexism or ****phobia or whatever other political bull**** people are worked up over.

Boxers are not politicians. They do not make political decisions. They hit other people for a living. That is their job. The sport is full of enough problems as it is - corruption, PED use, (non-boxing) violence, cheating etc - and yet the only thing that people that really gets people going is words. Stop trying to make boxing into something its not.

If you want to hate a boxer for beating up a woman or cheating then fine but don't hate them for saying some dumb ****. Everyone says dumb ****. Just get over it.

Words are what help build a fight, and like it or not have lasting consequences.

Judge a boxer by what he does in the ring.

Judge a man by what he does (and says) outside of the ring.

I can do both with the same individual, I don't have to feel a desire to be BFF with ever boxer that I rate any more than I feel that I can't appreciate the skills of a boxer who acts like a prick outside of the ring.

This is exactly how I feel. Too many quotes blown way out of proportion. I blame twitter and social media for this.

Yeah, exactly. So why do people take it so seriously? These boxers aren't politicians they are fighters.

This is a very nebulous question because it varies. People get butthurt pretty easily and choose to ignore,"sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." So when their feelings get hurt instead of rationally working through that they explode and lash out at everything the fighter they hate does, no matter how mundane.

It has increased dramatically with social media. Where everyone loves to argue and criticise everything, like its a hobby.
But many boxers want controversy because it sells.
              Its really nothing new.
Boxers personality out of the ring and how they fight cannot really be separated. Its what makes us like or dislike them.
We can dislike a fighter for saying something racist in the same way we can dislike a guy saying the same thing who lives down the street.

I couldn't disagree more. A boxer's personality outside the ring doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how they fight in the ring. Mayweather and Fury are cautious fighters but brash showmen in public. GGG plays the good guy but fights like a killer.

As for getting mad at someone you know for saying dumb **** well that's up to you. Personally I don't like to judge people off one thing because I know people are complex. I'm not gonna peg you as a ****** because you said something ******ed.

                  I didnt say it did.
I said we cannot separate a fighters personality from their public character.
Their are two halves to a boxer that make up the whole. We weigh both sides of a boxer up when judging how much we like or dislike them.

What a person says still has an effect on how we feel about them. Thats all im saying.
