Angel Garcia on Thurman-Porter: Why fight each other when they could fight a Salka?

I understand you kind of mad and don't like what was said and neither do majority of folks here.
But the bold is a complete BS. Danny was the favorite and looked at to win but Peterson vs Garcia not supposed to be competitive. WTF? Never heard anybody say they thought that but you.
part of the revisionist history that danny has always been pampered. danny fought his way to the top, got the lineal title at 140 by beating khan under a vacant lineage when they were # 1 and 2. beat matthusse, one of the biggest boogeymen in boxing.
mauricio harrera was a touhg fight, as well, and lots of people thought he won. hows' he not a threat when they thought he won?
now, morales 2, judah, paulie, salka, were soft touches. judah and paulie are brooklyn fighters, who presumably drew at barclays, so i get that.
i think a lot of the heat comes from other haymon matchmaking, the rhetoric of danny's dad, and the salka fight, which was a horrid mismatch, and about as bad as you'll see in a major fight on showtime.
some is earned. a lot of the hate comes from revisionist history, peopel who genuinely werne't following the sport several years ago, crossover haymon hate, crossover resentment of popular fighters in general, the beating he gave matthysse, etc.Comment

Everyone understands that Angel Garcia will probably want what's best for his son. That's not in question. Every stakeholder in the sport wants to maximise what they take out of it. Pointing out that Danny Garcia wants to make money is fairly redundant.
The relevant question is what's best for the sport. People criticising Garcia understand how things are, but the question of how things should be is equally important. This video reflects a growing shift towards the assumption that it is wrong to even expect fighters to face tough competition. You see that same attitude expressed on here regularly.
It's a question of whether ducking is a regrettable part of the sport, or a part of the sport that is not regrettable at all. For it seems many fans think boxing is now essentially a gameshow, where you are watching to see how much money the contestants win.
gotta sig it........Last edited by OnePunch; 01-14-2016, 01:12 PM.Comment

I can almost see why Angel would say what he did. It is much better for them to enter a division that is muddy where they can take the route they want. They do not want to go into a division that is defined with a main man in there as that will pressure them to fight them. But all this is getting tiring.
If Garcia decides to fight someone like Salka, he should get paid much lower accordingly. This guaranteed minimum stuff has to stop. Fighters are getting pampered too much.Comment

I would say that problem is more the fault of the promoter. They don't really promote fighters or fights anymore. They just collect a check from HBO or Showtime and they show commercials for the fight coming up in between movies, a series or a documentary. That is not getting the fight out to the public. That is doing the least amount of work possible.
Fighters need to fighter better competition and Promoters need to get off their butts get out and promote these fighters and fights.
Don King may have stole money from his fighters but at the same time he did a hell of a job promoting them and the fight.
It's just not an easy sport to promote when the fanbase is tied to individual fighters as opposed to the sport itself.Comment

That's already happened. Thurman/Porter, one of the most anticipated fights in the sport got bullied out of the MGM for a UFC card. Mayweather and Pacquiao were basically lipstick on a pig (being the sport of boxing) and they overshadowed the glaring problems associated with it and its declining popularity.Comment

Angel knows the majority of boxing fans are basically groupie b1tches who are in awe of boxers. That's why he can say this without fear of repercussions. The real idiots are the true fans like us who continue watching despite knowing the reality of this joke sport.Comment

This doesn't surprise me at all. Look at Garcia's fights since Matthysse. He has fought one b level fighter in Peterson amd he arguably lost.
Guerrero is on the downside of his career. I'm not even sure he is B level anymore either. Don't be surprised if Danny's next fight is against a guy like Bundu or Algieri.Comment
