Comments Thread For: David Tua Was Missing Joseph Parker's Drive, Says Barry

Boxing trainer Kevin Barry believes if David Tua had Joseph Parker's drive and dedication he would have won the world heavyweight title.

Barry oversaw the development and peak of Tua's professional career which culminated in a disappointing unanimous points loss to world champion Lennox Lewis in a title fight in Las Vegas in 2000.

If Parker has a chin like Tua's he's going to be a very hard man to beat.

Pretty ridiculous to think Tua never won a title but guys he knocked over then moon in about 20 seconds won multiple titles. It's all about connections that why Tua got screwed not because of his drive. People ducked him. Only the REAL Heavyweight Champion of my lifetime Lennox Lewis gave him a shot.

Or, the guy who trained him for 12 years could be right ?

And totally outclassed him, for every minute of every round.

The Izonritei fight was a sign of things to come for Tua, who was limited.

Barry is right, Parker has much more to his game than Tua did.

Yeah, it's crazy. His timing was just bad. He destroyed moorer, Ruiz, maskaev, and Rahman, all when they weren't champs. I still consider him one of the best of that era even without a belt.

Hope you true to your word.
Duco needs take Parker to the UK.The UK is hotbed of boxing at the
            moment.
Start off with Hughie Fury. Then Chisora, followed by Whyte.
Then Joshua in a massive fight.Slow build up to Joshua fight is important.
Parker has the talent to beat the lot.

Nobody wanted to give him a voluntary shot and by the time he got his mandatory the undisputed champion was too good for anybody but an modern era all time great.

Botha, Bruno, Seldon, Ruiz, Maskaev and Moorer were clearly inferior to Tua. Also when he lost to Lewis and Lewis slowly shed his belts he was inactive and lost an eliminator to Chris Byrd.

Only Wlad wanted to give Tua a shot and that was a good ten years after Tua was anything close to his peak and then Wlad low balled him with his purse offer.

The only problem for Parker is he is undersized.

He carries a bit too much bodyfat for me, he'd naturaly be about 225-230 if he was lean.

And the funny thing is because his opponents are all so short it makes him look big but i did a size comparrison using Dillian Whyte and Brian Minto and Parker is actually a LOT smaller than Joshua, a LOT. I was surprised as i thought it was quite close, but no, joshua dwarfs him, he's the same height as whyte but a lot smaller in dimension

Whyte looks like a weekend warrior physique. He has tons of butter he can lose. If he was a similar body fat to Parker he wouldn't be any bigger. Parker just needs to fight small against a giant 6'5"+ opponent.

Many heavyweights don't know how to do this if they are always fighting guys in their height range.

yes but the problem for Parker is they keep putting him in with 6'0", 6'1" guys and this is when he looks most devestating because he's taller, has a longer reach, has faster hands, more power and better chin.

How's he going to do against a guy who's taller, has a longer reach than him, isn't that far behind in handspeed, hits like a freight train and we don't know who has the better chin?

Parker REALLY needs to step it up and fast, i'm getting tired of hearing about him when all he's beat are hand picked patsys who are being selected to make him look good.
