Boxing after Mayweather and Pacquiao looks bleak... UFC is clearly the more exciting sport with the better story-lines and better fan-friendly PPV cards...
Boxing has become a PC-pacifist sport in which the aggressor gets no credit for being the aggressor...
A guy can run and land soft-insignificant shots and clinch his way to winning round after round..even if the aggressor lands the harder blows and comes forward...
"Effective aggression" is another word for the brawler has to badly hurt the runner to win the round... it should be the other way around as it has always been historically..if you weren't the aggressor YOU HAD TO KNOCK DOWN OR HURT THE OPPONENT...
Thurman vs. Porter has Thurman by boring UD written all over itComment

If casual fight fans can only name one boxer but can name 8-10 MMA fighters why the huge discrepancy In PPV buys? Here's the sad state of combat sports. Based purely on popularity I'm not talking about making money. The average fight fan or casual fight fan will probably name 8 to 10 MMA fighters before they name 1 boxer and that's probably giving boxers more credit than actual truth.
The UFC has run circles around Boxing in regards to promoting, social media, and just making more fan friendly fights than boxing. Better cards. Better content.
Not to mention the biggest elephant in the room theirs no division in regards to making the best fights possible like their is in boxing.
Currently the most popular active boxer is Canelo most would say. But he's really not a cross over superstar yet. So boxing has a lot of catching up to do. But they need to figure out a way to all get a long and make fights the fans want to see.Comment

Your right that's pay per view though. I guess you can say would a fight fan or casual fight fan rather pay money for 1 super boxing match or 1 super MMA match you can say that boxing wins that battle. The prove is in the pudding. But that's 1 day.
But if your talking about who watches more UFC fights or Boxing matches from January to December? It's clearly MMA. Look at viewership numbers. Look at how UFC prelims are getting more viewership than most of the fights that are being put on HBO, Showtime, and the various PBC platforms.
Look out how the Fox Fights the UFC produces get huge numbers compared to the free fights that are on the various PBC platforms.
True every now and then boxing puts on good cards that get good numbers. But it's not as consistent as it should be to be on equal playing ground as the UFC.Comment

Good answer and you may be right on. I have never looked at the numbers concerning prelim and free TV UFC fights. Of course being that HBO and Showtime cost extra per month that may also help the UFC.Your right that's pay per view though. That would also be my final point. HBO put on some good fights this past year however that was on HBO not free like the UFC where you can constantly see there fights on FOX or the other various Fox Outlets that show there fights.Comment

Very well put, I have been saying this for the longest time now. I can appreciate defensive skills but there has been an influx of amateur type scoring that has led to loss of fans.Boxing after Mayweather and Pacquiao looks bleak... I totally agree that aggression should be rewarded; if not for the aggressor you have no fight. One of the best examples of this is the last Rigondeaux fight where if not for Francisco moving towards Rigo there would have been no fight.
Boxing is a combat sport and like in any other form of combat you have to fight to win. Potshotting and running 'a la Lara is not fighting.Comment

Really don't care when they fight just as long as they fight
But going head to head with a huge UFC Card wouldn't be good business especially for a fight has has the potential to be a huge one like Thurman vs Porter does. I'm sure they will find a date and finally announce this fight.Comment
