We only respect monzon as a fighter.
So why can't you do the same for Floyd? Double standards much?

You can train anyone from a young age to be good at boxing, it's not nearly enough of an accomplishment to be excused for assaulting women
You're not going to be a fan of a lot of great fighters then with this mentality. The GOAT Sugar Ray Robinson was a notorious woman beater for example. Tyson, Lamotta, Leonard, Holyfield, and many others have a dark past. Drop the holier than thou attitude and appreciate boxers for what they do inside the ring, not their personal life outside it.

not a fan of his either and would have wished him misfortune

boxing just isn't that important to me, it's something I do for exercise once a week and I like watching the pros hit each other in the head

I'm not going to "respect" guys who beat women just because they're good at boxing. Hope someone ****s on Robinson's grave. From what I recall he abused his entire family.

Also left out his ex-wife shot him 2x, leaving a bullet in his back. After going to prison for Muniz he was allowed to leave prison during the weekends, which is when he overturned his car while returning. A violent and tragic end all to similar to Valero.

I think its hard as a human to respect a person in one area & hate or condemn them in another area. But thats what being human kinda is & we should try to be able to not throw the baby out with the bathwater on exceptional people who also have human failings.

I know many many many people who are good to great in something & suck or are horrible in other ways. Some of these horrible things are throwaways things & some are more impactful of the overall personality of an individual like with Monzon's. Its just being human is the simplest way to look at it or think about it. So for me I try to separate the boxer from the man as best I can & I greatly respect Monzon the boxer while not having much respect for him as a man knowing as much as I know about his crimes.

And I wouldn't disagree with the concept of sometimes the bad is badder than the good is to make them overall a negative outcome for our society at large, I just don't try to focus on that sorta mindset myself as I believe there are things to be respected & appreciated in every one of us as fairy dust-ish & tumblr social justice warrior as that probably sounds lol.

I don't look at these guys as heroes for my children.

They entertain me and teach me about boxing. Their personal lives are none of my business.

Booze drugs and ******ity affect all men, why should professional prize fighters be different?
Get rid of the "fanatic behavior" and enjoy the event and leave their personal lives alone.
When it comes to violence I would personally leave the "fighter" alone, who exactly do you think could react most violently a pro fighter or a tennis player?

Wanting to fight in any contact sport isn't a "normal need" for the average person even if they show violence to others. Add in the violent lives that pro fighters live and you might get a reaction that gets volatile very fast with devastating results too.

So presumably you can vouch for the morals and ethics of any boxer you are a fan of? If you cannot then you are a hypocrite because while you can know not to follow a guy who is outed as a wife abuser, etc, you are unwilling to confirm whether, just because the press does not report it, and just because there is not a record of it, that the guys you follow are not engaging in the same behavoir.

There is nothing wrong with understanding the limits of talent. Sammy Davis Junior was a great comic and very talented...I wouldn't want to be have been his liver though...Wagner wrote incredible pieces of music...I don't subscribe to his politics. Thats the way life works and unless you know a person's past you cannot say with certainty what they have/have not done that might violate your own ethical standards.
