Comments Thread For: Charles Martin: I Would’ve Knocked Out Breazeale For Sure

Even after securing a world title fight, heavyweight contender Charles Martin didn’t want to withdraw on such short notice from what would’ve been a nationally televised fight against undefeated Dominic Breazeale on December 12 in San Antonio.

Yeah, Martin looks the better prospect of the two. I notice he's the betting underdog vs Glazkov and Mansour is the underdog vs Breazeale, whereas I'd have both those fights the other way round.

America needs a Heavyweight champ even Wilder

American boxing needs a quality Heavyweight as Champion even Wilder would suffice to fill that void. All of the USA's great athletes play the big 3 sports and all boxing gets is the trash that is left over the throwaway types with bad poor backgrounds and dubious character flaws. But again Boxing in the USA is the 9th rated sport and actually gets little coverage anymore. Wilder is unknown to most Americans.

Breazeale would've definitely been KOd. I don't see how he's ranked as highly as he is, but then the truth will rear it's head soon enough, so no worries. As for Martin, just looking at the few fights I've seen of him, he should UD Glazkov, and after that a Wilder fight would be excellent. Or Joshua or Ortiz.

I usually don't say this but the writing is rather poor in this article.

Unlike the other 23 times he stepped in the ring Martin lost this fight?

WTF? He didn't lose anything other than the opponent/date.

            Maybe I am quibbling.

You are right, it confused me too at first. What he meant to say is that Martin lost the fight with his managers to get the opportunity to fight Breazeale. But it does read like Martin lost a fight.

No son believe it or not boxing is more popular in the UK which has no real professional sports and in Germany and in Ireland which has nothing. Mexicans love boxing same with Argentina people but there is nothing to do or watch in those countries not even sure if there are TV's there or electricity. Russia and all those funny sounding Stan countries send all their fighters to America to fight and make some cash. But boxing gets almost nothing coverage wise in the USA. Spike TV and the animal planet channel and national geographic will soon have american Boxing.

Very true, when people say boxing is dying they are only partly right, in the USA it's definitely dying, MMA is becoming the go to combat sport in here, but boxing is still faring better than MMA at the global level.

Boxing is popular in most countries and the USA doesn't even matter any more. Look for Macau and some of the other countries with huge casinos and betting parlors to get more involved in boxing as an important ingredient to their success.
