Fighters fight. If they fight 100x in their hometown then props to their management team for bullying fools in negotiations.
When did it matter if a fighter fights at home if they are not getting gift decisions

Watch the Kessler fight man, they even show slow-mo in between rounds of a vicious head butt where Ward just flies in head first. Kessler's eye was wrecked because of the butts in that fight and it was never the same. His eye bothered him in all of his remaining fights and was part of the reason he retired. Ref just let it happen the whole fight.
Literally shortened his career with headbutts.Comment

Agreed. Also Ward doesn't do himself any favors when's it comes to exposure and his ability to make more Money.... But that's what he would like and that's his choice. I have no problem with an individual impeding their career.Comment

Ws it as bad as the headbutt Tony Weeks allowed Wlad to get away with against Fury?? or the knee Weeks allowed Maidana to throw at Mayweather?Watch the Kessler fight man, they even show slow-mo in between rounds of a vicious head butt where Ward just flies in head first. everyone knows the american market is the biggest for boxing. no one denies that. some people may ignore inherent advantages that american figthers have but that's nothing new. the super six was supposed to be a fair tournament but when one guy fights in 4 countries and another in only his own and gets away with countless fouls it becomes a showcase more than a tournament unfortunately.Last edited by daggum; 01-08-2016, 02:07 PM.Comment

that's what clinching does though. it takes a fight that might have been close and makes it a domination. see wlad's career, alexander-maidana, maidana-floyd 2(best example of how clinching can influence a fight), etc...that's the security that ward has when he fights in oakland. if he doesn't have to clinch he won't but if he feels he needs to rely on breaking the rules he knows he can get away with it. if he fought in someone else's home country that same sense of security and entitlement wouldn't exist.Like many of you address, he knows he isn't beloved like How GGG and Manny is/was....add in the fact he hasn't been very active the past few years and he has signed to a new promo team, they have to basically build his fan base again
Why does he need a security blanket when he hasn't had any close fights his entire pro career...all clear wins....I think you're reaching a little broComment

1) Yes, Ward's headbutt was much worse and more blatant than Wlad's.

2) Weeks allowed Fury to get away with rabbit punches for 10 (or 11?) rounds. He warned Fury 4-5 times. I think it's fair he allows Wlad to get away with a headbutt.
3) In case people forgot how bad Ward's headbutts were, here's an article from his fight with Kessler:
4) Here's another article on that fight. 88 clinches from Ward. Should have been deducted at least a point in that fight, as well as Froch.Ward won on scores of 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93. The fight was stopped on a cut ruled caused by a headbutt. Kessler was also bleeding over the other eye, which was also caused by a butt that wasn't called.
How easily people forget :-/Comment

im not from Missouri but a MFer have to show me...I don't involve myself in should've, could've, would've...that's a big problem on this siteWhile none of Ward's fights were that close and a different locale wouldn't have made a difference, the objection is that it COULD have made a difference because of home cooking.
Look at Klitchko-Fury. Fury's on the record saying that when he got docked the point for rabbit punches, he thought he lost the fight because the German judges would never forgive him for that.
Judges are also susceptible to audience's response. The home crowd will downplay the visitor's hits and overreact when the home town fighter lands one. Judges are not supposed to, but everyone is human. It does make a difference.
Both are undefeated....and the right man won vs Klitschko
Fury probably knew that game plan wasn't fan friendly, I understand being worried about being robbed but you don't have to worry about being robbed when you clearly beat your opponent
He won all his fights fair and square and if he was in Timbuktu it wouldn't have made a difference in any of wards fightsComment
