My pick is Ward....he may have to pick himself off the Floor, Kovalev may have to as well considering he has been dropped and buzzed in recent fights.


I give the edge to Ward....He is faster, more complete fighter with a better defense


Kov has the eraser but IMO wont land consistently enough to stop Ward, which is the only way I can see him winning.


Ward would be best served fighting him on the outside or all the way in....Kov is a Killer @ mid range


Ward has one of the best jabs of this generation and throws it to the head and body well...Kov can be a little stiff and doesnt have much head and torso movement, so that will leave openings after being jabbed to the body

i also notice how you didn't mention how he had every fight in his home country in the super six while froch had to fight in 4 countries. what a fair tournament huh? that doesn't sound like ward at all....but i'm sure it doesn't matter right? because he would have been able to cheat, hold, and headbut in other countries too because that's how "smart" of a boxer he is

Elite means persons of the highest class:the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.


After Joe Calzaghe retired, the best super middleweights have been Carl Froch and Kessler....He beat both as the underdog and also both were at the top of their divison, both have been p4p entrants....so they meet the criteria of being labeled elite


I agree Estrada is elite...Now...... but I disagree with the win being more impressive considering when the fight happened. Estrada was highly ranked and never held a title at that point and his best win Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. who also beat him.


Kessler only lost to ATG calzaghe and was unified champion before he ever fought Ward....his other loss is to Hall of fame bound Froch which happened afterwards...before he lost to Ward he had already defeated half a dozen current or future titlists


Before Froch fought Ward he had a better resume than Estrada when he fought Chocolatito as well.....with wins over Pascal, Taylor and Robin Reid


Arthur Abraham was never an elite super middleweight but he was an elite middleweight and defended his IBF strap ten times and beat competition on par or better than GGG, since you brought him up...Abraham was knocking guys out at 160 and was undefeated there with a record of 30-0 (25 kos)

All 3 are/were elite fighters(Froch, Estrada and Kessler)

The interpretation of the dictionary definition of elite is subjective. My definition is being a standout in a minimum 2/3 year period with other elite fighters on the record. Some fighters either are or appear elite their whole careers eg. Mayweather, others are more like shooting stars and flame out. Others appear elite but don't have the resume to back it up - Golovkin. Yet others seem to fall somewhere in between as they appear elite and have very good fighters on their resume - Ward .... but arguably not elite fighters. Now you want to call Froch, Kessler and Abraham elite - I don't, and that is not me hating on Ward it's just my opinion about Froch and his opposition. Now if you want to call Froch a warrior I'm fine with that.

It's all debatable so why not chill? I have Rigo as elite. He not only looks the part but he diminished Donaire in fan's eyes. And Donaire was considered elite by nearly all.

Now Walter's beat Donaire as well. But you have to figure that Donaire was fighting where he shouldn't have been, Walters was an enormous featherweight and he was also feasting (somewhat) on Rigo leftovers. So I don't see Walters as elite - yet.

BTW - although pound for pound counts for something it is not the be all and end all - Golovkin should not be as high as he is, Broner never should have been and Bradley should be higher until it's proven he is on the slippery slope downwards. In general far too many higher weight boxers get into the PfP ratings at the expense of lower weight fighters.

I have to give the slight edge to Ward who I think can use a solid defense to thwart Kovalev's offence and counter perfectly. That's just how I see it.

Ward wants to get in the ring 2 times before fighting kovalev in 2016 yet he still doesn't have an opponent. Ward gets whooped and he knows it, I wouldn't be surprised if he backs out of the Kovalev fight feigning an injury.

Is there even a date for him to fight again? It's one thing to have a date and TBA but not even any date?

What happened to the talk from last week about a $300K offer for Barrera - was that for real or just gas?

That's a very valid analysis. Mine is more basic. Kovalev will catch up with Ward eventually and when he does the damage he does will slow Ward down. When that happens it will be the beginning of the end. Late stoppage for Kov.
