This is what has always pissed me off about Canelo Alvarez and his team. Although its not stated it is implied that Canelo will take only 1 fight in between his mandatory fight with GGG, in the mean time GGG will at least have 2 fights before Canelo keeping his timing on point and weight down. I cant stand GGG mainly because of his fans but ill admit his activity is by far the best of any current Champ and it helps keep him a step ahead of his opposition. Canelo and his team need to not be so arrogant and think that 1 fight will prepare them for a big MW with skill and power. A ten round non title fight in Mexico would be ideal for March/April time frame but Im sure Alvarez will be walking around about 190lbs around that time of year beginning training camp for a Cinco de Mayo soft touch...Comment

Who mentions Monroe here gumbo....I'm talking about rosado and he had lost 4 of his last 6 so I don't see that as a good fight for canelo in terms of respect or sells.....as for Monroe...I wouldn't sleep on Monroe with canelo....he has good foot and handspeed and is a bigger version of Lara so if canelo go's that route you could see some surprises in store that night...lm all for canelo fighting Monroe just not punched up Gabriel rosado...you need to read sentences properly gumboComment

Monroe would be a dangerous fight for Alvarez given the trouble he had with Lara. I don't see that generating a lot of excitement before, during, or after either. Jacobs would be great, but you have to figure the GB/Haymon lawsuit kills it. Rosado would be also hard to get excited for, but then again GB/HBO were set to make Alvarez/Clottey last December. I wouldn't be surprised if Heiland gets into the running.Comment

Why is this "good to hear"? I don't see it as "good for boxing" per se. Until boxing has a centralized authority that forces the best fighters to fight each other, instead of allowing fights time to "marinate" or allowing a fighter's promoter to weight drain another fighter or blatantly duck a fighter, then the best thing for boxing is for it to circle the drain.
Floyd & Manny circled each other (both parties were guilty) over the years, and we ended up getting two guys post-prime in a snooze fest. 4.5 million PPV buys for people to watch two old men literally circling each other for 36 minutes doing the 5th grade 'hood "fight" where two guys feint, flinch, & clinch for 36 minutes.
There is zero reason why Canelo & GGG should not headline the new MGM for its first premier fight event. Canelo is the middleweight champion and walks around at 170. GGG is the #1 middleweight contender and walks around at 170. Both are in their prime. Both have solid, growing fan bases. Neither can sell a PPV on their own name without another star.
This makes complete sense.
I'm not into UFC much, but Conor fighting Aldo recently would be unprecedented in boxing right now. Both guys in their prime, neither with any unfair advantages.
Why shouldn't UFC headline MGM's first fight event?
Why is it good for boxing to be rewarded when it's outpacing the corruption of previous generations.
Let it continue to die a slow death just like the music industry, as it becomes more and more corporatized.Comment

Is Heiland a mandatory too? I thought GGG was his only "mandatory" right now.
Hope lol. I feel like I'm being too optimistic when I say I think there is a 40% chance we see Canelo vs GGG this year. I also think Jacobs has gotten himself into the who's the best fighter at 160 discussion so he's gonna need to lose or Canelo or GGG will need to fight him too at some point before this 160 situation is really worked out.
I've considered GGG the #1 guy at 160 since Sergio lost so til Canelo or Jacobs or hell even BJS do something bigger or GGG loses I got him as the best guy regardless of all the title silliness, step asides, marinating periods, catchweights & promoter/network issues.Comment

If GGG vs. Canelo doesn't happen in September all hell will break loose. The WBC loses the little bit of credibility they gained back, GGG either gets a gifted title or gets another step aside payday and Canelo will be a "ducker" again.
Everybody loses if the fight doesn't happen this year except the promoters because it will have that May/Pac type of build up where it is worth more in 2 years than today.Comment

Damn. But yea there is something to be learned from the UFC by people in boxing. I've stated numerous times that boxing would be in a better position tomorrow if they straight up stole anything they could steal from how the UFC operates. Competitive fights. Hyped up events. Near parties going on at venues from the starting fight til the last fight. No f#cks given about L's. Better access to athletes for fans. FOTN/KOofTN bonuses. Winner/loser purses. Could probably name a dozen more things if I thought about this a lil longer.
The UFC's last two PPV's, no numbers on the one Saturday yet, sold over a mill & boxing biggest fight not involving Floyd or Manny is still at 900k last I heard. To act like the UFC isn't doing something right in the getting hit in the head business is naive or just ******. Boxing needs to change its marination strategy. People under 35 who are cool with waiting 6 months to a year for a fight is a dying species of people.Comment
