No it's not a curse. But getting hit in the head repeatedly for a decade may make you appear cursed.

If by curse you mean several years after winning the award you do less well than the time period in which you won the award then I guess so.

But really, the curse you are referring to then is getting older and having a style that is hard to maintain the effectiveness of over a long career. RJJ's style required a lot of athleticism and Pac's style was very aggressive which are both styles that are difficult to maintain well into your 30s without suffering any losses.

2012 is not exactly several years later....and Another similarity is Roy was 34 and Manny was turning 34..interesting

              Karma is a.....****, ****, **** type bytch

I closest manny got to a win was a draw in that fight...Marquez landed the better, harder, cleaner shots and the commentary gave him credit for shots that didnt land and when he got hit clean they didnt even comment on it

Well IIRC the award was for 2000-2009, and Marquez IV took place days from 2013. There is plenty of time between those two periods for **** to change when you have a style that isn't exactly optimal for longevity. Plus, one punch can put you down even if you haven't fallen off.

But whatever, the point is that the award isn't intended to suggest that he was going to be that good forever or that he was invincible. The "curse" you are describing is just these fighters losing a step as they went up in age as has happened with virtually every fighter who has won or not won the award over the years.

It's normal boxing life. You spend 10 years at the top of the sport, you're not going to be better off for it. Most great boxers have bad ends to their careers.

He is in huge debt and even left the USA to become a Russian citizen to evade the tax debt

Manny is also in huge tax debt and it appears his handlers are trying to convince him to continue to fight on for a few more years against up and coming fighters.

Is winning this award a curse?
Is that really why he left?
I figured it was a combination of he gets treated like a star, can make money there and the women.
