Idk if I agree with that necessarily. I think for HBO Kov vs Ward is the bigger fight. I'm a PBC supporter, but its hard to act like Stevenson's status hasn't dropped with his subpar PBC fights (Bika & Tommy K) vs what he was doing on HBO (seems like $-wise it worked out, but rep-wise he's taken a hit). Granted Ward's rep isn't in great shape either, but from HBO's pov I can't believe they wouldn't much rather see Ward vs Kov first as we got two P4P discussed undefeated boxers both with HBO in play. Plus it just seems like HBO has to feel like they were f#cked over by Stevenson in the past so making him wait seems like it'd be karmic for HBO.

Kovalev's biggest payday so far came against Pascal, and that was mostly Canadian money. That's why he's going back to Montreal to fight him again next.

Before he signed with Haymon, Stevenson was as big a draw, if not bigger, than Pascal, with the Canadian fans. The poor quality opponents he's been fighting since then are what caused his ratings to fall.

I'm sure those fans would come back and pay to see Stevenson in a unification fight with Kovalev, who they know well by now. Of the 2 possible match-ups, Kovalev/Ward is the one that needs to marinate.

Add to that the uncertainty factor that hangs around Ward like a bad smell. I don't think he will ever fight Kovalev. There are bound to be doubts about that at HBO too.

I'm sure that if Kovalev vs Stevenson can be made this summer, neither Kovalev nor HBO will want to postpone it in favour of another fight that might not happen at all, and might end up doing very poor numbers if it does happen.

Marinate is the new ducking lol. Definitely a word being used a whole lot more lately.

Fwiw I'd LOVE to see Kov vs Stevenson in June, I just feel like HBO might not love it quite as much cuz it potentially diminishes the value of a fight they appear to have signed already for the 2nd half of 2016. And do you feel differently about this if Ward & Kov are signed to fight (as Duva is saying)? To me you only want one big fight at a time agreed to. Although I suppose even if Kov took a L to Stevenson Kov would be the best opponent available to Ward still. But to me too much luster gets lost if Kov loses.

Duva said she's already negotiated a deal with Stevenson's promoter, Yvon Michel, and is waiting to see if Haymon and Stevenson accept it.

She is now talking with Ward about him fighting Sullivan Barrera next.

Obviously it would be better for Duva if Barrera beats Ward and Kovalev beats Stevenson so she can match the 2 of them for all 4 belts.

I guess if Andre gets past Barrera, or whoever it is for him next, and Krusher loses to Stevenson, Ward vs Kovalev could still happen, and it would still be an interesting fight.

I would definitely like to see Kova Ward first. Ward is not anywhere near as dangerous, and Kova should knock him out. Stevenson is more tricky due to the power.
