You should know that Kazakhstan is an independent state. Not sure if you follow world history and general news, but for example "Kurdistan" is not a state, and many Kurds living in Middle Eastern countries, regardless of where they were born, don't acknowledge the state where they reside... because they truly want their own independent country. That's "ethnic pride." Just like many of the Kazakh people (now Kazakhstan) associated themselves with ethnicity not just "Russian" or being a "Soviet."

Patriotism is the acknowledgement or importance to defend HIS/HER own state, therefore, Golovkin represents Kazakhstan not Russia. His "patriotism" is for Kazakhstan not Russia, and there's far too many of his people's phenotype and culture to prove that, hence the Asian look from Mongoloid people.
