If you want to call him a racist don't use the monkey insult as an example as that truly is a fairly common insult in Russia. To call someone a monkey is saying you act like a monkey or an ape, not because of your ethnicity. Russians call Russians monkeys and I don't think Kovalev was implying anything racial in that tweet. It's an ongoing adjustment and learning experience for Kovalev where the cultural differences are massive. He's also a funny guy who is always making jokes and sometimes he's had difficulty translating his Russian humor. I've seen a few interviews where he's clearly trying to make a joke but stumbling on the correct words to use and the interviewer has no clue what he's saying lol
Have you ever met...

They're born in a privileged era, where everything is magnified because this lazy generation simply has nothing else to do with their time, so race crusades take top priority. It's mostly white nerds trying to fit in.Comment

Is he racist? Who knows. You never know what someone is feeling in their heart. Nobody can say he is not a mean person. The dude seems like he would like to have his ring victims taxidermied and put on display in his house if he was allowed to LOLComment

I actually met him a week after his last fight, i had the opposite reaction i was surpriced how small he looked. Im by no means a big guy and he seemd smaller than i imagined.Maybe because he has just fought. Met him as he was leaving an eye dr place in burbank, i was surpriced he was rude to me, he had those plastic glasses they give u when they dialate your eyes. I asked for a pic when recognized him he was with his wife and krew he said no! No picture! I didnt take it personal he was maybe irritated from the eye drops , not to mention it was about 100 degrees that day.Comment

Tru dat. How Kov isn't being marketed as the big bad Russian is lost on me. Just cuz Kathy Duva **********s herself to sleep at night to him doesn't mean he shouldn't be hyped as some modern day & real Ivan Drago. Kov could be rich & mainstream as f#ck. Maybe he'd have to exist like the Iron Sheik in his post-boxing days, but its a small price to pay for all the upside he'd have & is currently missing out on.
As for the legit racist claims about Kov, I don't really give a f#ck about that. I think there is certainly some controversy to be had & discussed there, but its hard to tell how racist someone is from the comfort of your keyboard. Plus I definitely agree there is some usage of racist words in fights, arguments & just general **** measuring that is used to anger another person that doesn't define one's belief about other races. I have a very ******* usage of the word ***** as an insult to men & women in particular when I'm upset, but I don't hate women. Words don't make you racist. The actions & thoughts behind those words make you racist.Comment

All I can say is he was getting ready to fight Jean and I was weighing around 190 at the time we took the pic and he makes me looks like a 154 pounder in it.Comment

Yea Kovalev is definitely not some virulent racist. He know's exactly what he's doing with his controversial statements. It's a put down and skirts on the edge of racism. It's all about media attention. Also to note, he's from ****ing Russia, I'm sure there are things we do that they consider reprehensibleComment

Racism on this site is getting out of hand.

I don't understand racism. Like wtf is wrong with some people the blacks have millions of great people in their communities. The ***ish people have great people. Racism and bigotry seriously pisses me the **** off.
