Still don't understand why he didn't go to the Olympics. If he's as good as they say he could have won a gold medal and then turn pro. The experience plus medalist would have made him a star

He was too young.
He didn't have a shot to go to the Olympics anyway, since Carlos Balderas qualified early to the Olympics in the 132 weight (where Haney fought at).
So nobody in that division had a chance to begin with.
I think Balderas is the correct representative imo anyway.

I doubt Balderas medals as he is in one of the best, maybe the best, division in amateur boxing right now.
Balderas already faced one of the top guys in the division, Selimov, and he basically got toyed with.
Balderas will be a good pro though.
