You know, Floyd also believes America wants the Theopane VS Broner fight. Maybe we should just stop listening to Floyd.

Maybe I'm missing something but the dude has only had 3 fights in the last 4 years, that's like semi-retired imo. The one fight that he had since 2013 was a tin can who was actually a negative to his resume.

How does a guy that does so little get so much credit? He did great in the Super Six but that was a LONG time ago and most of those guys ended up being on the tale ends of their careers during that tourney.

I don't think it has anything to do with race and everything to do with activity. boxing takes place in a ring, not in a damn courtroom.

Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. stated this week that he believes racism still plays a prominent role in which fighters are promoted and how they are treated by the media.

Ben Thompson of Fight Hype passed along comments from the retired five-division world champion about the state of boxing as 2015 comes to a close. Money pointed to Andre Ward as proof that racism continues to exist in the world of combat sports.

"I can't believe they got Andre Ward ranked No. 4 in the pound-for-pound list...without Andre Ward losing a fight, he has to be No. 2," he said. "I mean, he wins his fights not in good fashion, but in great fashion, and they have him at No. 4...I truly believe that racism still exists in the sport of boxing."

He also pointed to his own experience as an outspoken self-promoter as further example that the treatment from the media isn't fair across the board when considering UFC sensation Conor McGregor:

I heard his name actually from one of the runners that works for our company; a little kid named Ken Hopkins, he's a runner and takes care of a lot of the daily business. Whatever we need, he takes care of. He's a cool little kid, I like him, and he does MMA. He told me about the guy McGregor. They say he talk a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I'm ****y and arrogant. So biased! Like I said before, all I'm saying is this, I ain't racist at all, but I'm telling you racism still exists.

Mayweather also discussed the difference between how the UFC's Ronda Rousey and boxing's Laila Ali were treated during their dominant runs:

After Ronda Rousey fought I think 9, 10, 11 fights, it didn't even take that long, she got all types of endorsements, movies, and everything. Laila Ali did the same thing in better fashion. Ronda Rousey, she's a good looking woman when she put it on. Laila Ali is a drop-dead gorgeous woman; I mean a naturally beautiful woman and can kick ass, but you never heard them [the media] saying when she had I think somewhere around 10, 11, 12 fights that she was the baddest woman to ever fight on the planet.

Mayweather noted that several fighters haven't received enough attention, including Terence Crawford, Danny Garcia and Kell Brook. He believes their association with manager Al Haymon and himself have hurt their cause.

Perhaps that will change as boxing begins searching for the next wave of big draws. With Mayweather retired and Manny Pacquiao set to step away after his next bout, the sport is going to need some new names to attract the big pay-per-view numbers.

Mayweather is trying to help bring some names stuck in the background of the mainstream conversation to the forefront. Though he's decided to hang up his gloves after accumulating a 49-0 record, his voice still carries a lot of weight in the world of boxing.

Now he's trying to use it to eliminate the racism he still sees in how some fellow fighters are treated
I can't believe Ward is No4 P4P either. Based on his activity and accomplishments over the last 4 years, he shouldn't be ranked at all.

Re Ronda and Laila, for some weird reason, a large portion of the American public, and not just the female portion, now want to believe that women are tougher, stronger, and can fight better than men.

Dana White and Ronda tapped into that trend, and the myth of the female "baddest man on the planet" was born.

If Ronda had been active at the same time as Laila, nobody would have paid her any attention at all. If Laila was still young, hot, and fighting right now, she would be just as big as Ronda was. Maybe more so.

Racism exists, of course, but it doesn't explain everything. Floyd should put that card back in the pack and find some other way to keep himself in the headlines.

So what he's saying is that you shouldn't even have to be an active boxer to be p4p #1, being half black automatically gives you the title because it's (paraphrased) "our sport"?

A lot of NSB will agree.

In reality Ward shouldn't be ranked on any p4p list and hasn't accomplished anything noteworthy in years.

A form of racism indeed DOES exist in boxing: black privilege.

That's why Ward is still P4P #4 without even fighting.

That's why Mayweather always had home advantage and support from the media, even though he was a boring, mediocre cherry-picker who avoided the best boxers when they were in their prime.

He is the number one paid athlete in the world. In claiming racist, I'm assuming he means that the sport wants to praise "white" fighters. I can't think of one white fighter who has accumulated anywhere near his wealth. Pac made like half of what he made for the worst fight of the century. Ward doesn't fight. The last time I checked, that was a requirement for being considered the best. This is a bogus claim all the way through. What has been GGG or Kovalev's highest purse? Even Canelo who I'm sure has made more than them combined? None of them compare to what he has made. What garbage.

He would have had many more if he didn't beat his wife and sleep with other people's girlfriends. Michael Jordan got his endorsements for being great and showing class instead of acting like trash.

why is ward on the list at all? it's been 4 years since he even tried to fight someone good. i don't believe in forever rankings. rankings change all the time depending on what is happening now. not what happened 4 years ago. basically floyd is setting himself up so in 4 years when he comes back and fights a bum he will still be #1

In reality, Floyd wouldn't be allowed to box if he were white. The wife beating and racist rants about asians etc would have instantly ended his career. There would be a bunch of unemployed "activists" stopping his fights from taking place.

Floyd's blackness has excused him many times throughout his career. He depends heavily on it.
