Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. has denied reports of being in financial jeopardy.

According to some of the reports going around, Jones is facing a significant tax bill from the Internal Revenue Service [IRS] in the United States. Jones became a Russian citizen in September.

Roy is up to his neck in it. He's moved to Russia to avoid the nasty debt collectors.

This is definitely the situation, most knew he had some type of financial issues and this is why he continues to fight even when knocked out brutally. Hopefully he can make money by being an ambassador (Opening gyms etc), and not actually boxing..

Hmm that explains a lot actually. I heard things before about him having money problems but thought it didnt make sense.... but tax problems certainly makes sense if he was letting yes men handle all of that and not paying attention so hes spent all the money and never paid his taxes from years ago.

Seems like his russian deal is one of two things:

1. he hasnt paid off his debts and plans to stay over there indefinitely to not pay them.

2. as part of whatever new deals hes signing with the russians over there, they agreed to pay off his debts for him so now he is in debt to a bunch of shady russian characters.


neither sounds good. Yeah hes got a nice gig with HBO doing commentary but if he really owes $3.5 million then that isnt going to cover it and theres also no way he recently came up with that money out of his ass in the last few months.

Kinda knew he was in debt, he lost a huge amount of money on a failed music empire, and local sports teams he funded. He had a networth of 35 million.

That money goes fast if you don't know how to save it.

At least Russia is helping him out by giving him money to be a boxing ambassador. Roy needs to hang it up and just do that and his commentary, he get six figures doing hbo commentary for the year.

I think he also had to pay a couple of his mistresses hush money.
