Now everything makes sense, the guy was fighting on for the same reasons many aged champs do, he was broke. I'll never claim to know the pressures of fame and fortune, but how do these cats end up broke all the time?

Michael Buffer makes more for one fight than the announcers do all year.

Strange indeed because Roy seems like a very smart guy who came from a hard but good family

            LOL.

There are idiots on here who really believed ROy was fighting other than $.

The guy was getting knocked out in forgeign countires, and you think he's not doing it for money.

Some of you guys need to use some thinking skills.

This isn't related to Roy per se but it made me think of a story Floyd was telling about his Uncle Roger and how various people managed to swindle millions out of him. I think it's really hard to know who to surround yourself with when your sole concern should be handling yourself in the ring. The sport of boxing is shark infested waters....

He was doing it it for the money, go back and read it

Obviously the financial problems were real. Maybe now that they're giving him other work/using his name he can stop fighting soon.

He was in several million dollars debt the HBO announcing gig wouldn't cover the interest even.
The key word here is was. Roy is saying that he's not fighting because he has to. He's obviously been able to use his connections to enter into other ventures. People were saying he's in tax debt, while his rep said it was failed ventures.

They're not mutually exclusive. Investing your money in a failed venture can actually put someone in a position where they are unable to pay their taxes if they foolishly rely on the business paying off in order to pay upcoming bills.

His situation is probably worse now as I doubt his promoter was in a charitable mood. His promoter made his own investment and I have a strong feeling that he will expect to make well over 3 million from Roy Jones.
