If Manny beat Mayweather this year would he have been fighter of the year?

this is just an honest question.

ESPN nominated Canelo, I don't agree with it but he isn't the worse choice

I was thinking about this the other day, especially when Ronda Rousey got the ESPY for fighter of the year

    I want everyone's honest opinion

regardless of how he won, if Manny won on May 2nd, would he have been everyones fighter of the year?

    He won...

As far as the people are concerned, Manny was robbed on May 2nd. Floyd didn't do anything effective in the fight.

Of course. If the fight had gone exactly the way it did and somehow the judges gave the decision to Manny people would be saying it was the fight of the century. The bad guy won that's why people try to dismiss the fight as boring.

If Manny would have won with a flashy style and getting the KO, then you damn sure he would be the fighter of the year, but come on, winning on points in a boring fight doesn't make you FOTY, and less if you think about the competition you had the same year.

If anyone beat the officially undefeated perceived p4p number 1 Mayweather then they would become fighter of the year. Not just Pacquiao, who already had 5 defeats, 2 draws and had recently been KOd by Marquez in one of the most devastating KOs of a top tier fighter ever.

Mine? No, not with one win, I could care less who the win was against. If guys are only going to fight twice a year, once in Manny's case this year, than it better be against two studs or at least a stud and a high caliber opponent.

yea....this isn't the 80s or 90s where the top guys fought maybe 2 legit guys and 2-3 softer touches in the same year...man I was spoiled growing up in the 80s and 90s

I think it has to do more with how fickle the fans are, than the fighters being afraid to fight each other....Once a fighter takes an L nowadays, the media craps on him unless you are a media darling like Manny or ODLH....Loss of a fight means loss of income and these guys raising families

Plus fighters are getting paid more now.....those 2 fights equal 5-6 from back in the day, money-wise

                  Yes.

Funny how Floyd wins the fight yet people like to say things like "Floyd ruined Boxing"

If Pacquiao would've won the fight (even if boring) they would be worshiping him

As a Floyd fan it pisses me off how you go on a Boxing article on Facebook and read comments like "All Floyd does is run!" and "Floyd ruined Boxing" and it gets a **** ton of likes.
