    Undefeated should matter.

Sven Ottke is underrated and unappreciated.

being undefeated doesn't really matter when there are many controversial decisions in boxing that always seem to go the a-sides way hmmmm

being undefeated doesn't really matter when you sidestep certain guys that could snatch that undefeated record.

its more just a thing for the low information fans who are impressed with shiny objects. playing the undefeated card is basically an all purpose way to credit/discredit any fighter. ward hasn't fought anyone in 4 years but he's still the best because he's "undefeated" meanwhile a guy like lemiuex's recent resume was ignored because he lost a couple times 4 years ago.
Nothing wrong with this. But credit should be given to fighters who go undefeated against top opposition, even if it's a long undefeated run after taking a loss or 2 along the way. Fans know the difference between guys who earned their stripes and guys with padded records. A loss to less than elite opposition or a loss in decisive fashion the first time stepping up can't be ignored tho.

Floyd is only undefeated in the feeble minds of his TMT fanboys.

Froch said it best, "if you retire undefeated it means you didn't fight everyone you were supposed to".

Boxers aren't superhumans, if they fight everyone they're supposed to consistently they will catch an L somewhere along the line.

If they pick and choose who they want to fight, then sure they can protect their records, but who cares, they're not fooling anyone.

                Joe Mesi retired undefeated, 36-0.

Means fucking nothing. He wasn't shit.
