Why is 155 or 160 an issue if there is no same day weigh in?

I dont know that he is, or isnt. And neither do you.

But obviously Team Canelo thinks he would be, or they wouldnt bother taking the "155 doe" position that they are taking.

The days of wanting to beat someone at their "best" are over. Now its just about using weight, or gloves, or whatever outside advantage someone can get. The idea that someone can demand a catchweight in a UNIFICATION FIGHT is insane.........

catchweight in fight between guys in different divisions = unfortunate, but understandable

catchweight in title defense / unification = immediate surrender of "man" card

he fought at 155 4 times already, is not exclusive for ggg...
besides if ggg says he is healthy at 155, should team canelo think otherwise?
i hope they fight at 160 in sept. anyways...

you are missing the whole point. Nobody is telling Canelo what HE should weigh. If he wants to weight 155 thats his business, and nobody would care one way or the other.

The difference comes in when he is telling another middleweight champion what THEY can weigh. Canelo is the WBC middleweight and lineal champion. That division spans from 154.1 to 160.0 It does NOT span from 154.1 to 155.0, which is what Canelo is trying to impose.

This is the evolution of the DLH-Hops, and Floyd and Pac era catchweights. Can you even imagine how far the next group of fighters is going to take it? The sport is fast becoming a joke, and bears little resemblance to the sport I fell in love with 40 years ago......

That's fine but he should give up the belt till body ready for 160. He did ask for 156 vs Cotto and I bet GGG agrees to 157. 1lb won't stop this fight from happening, if both sides want it

CWs have been around forever, but not between 2 guys competing in the same division, the lowest form of CW, esp if multiple/lineal belts involved. The sorry timeline goes like

            1. Champ Cotto vs Marg 2
            2. Floyd vs Canelo for 2 belts and lineal
            3. Cotto and now Canelo abusing CWs at MW with impunity

You're right, I forgot. Though Dlh was paper as can be, getting his belt via robbery over weakest champ

Honestly any fighter who comes in 10lbs or more on fight night from the weight they were on the scales has no room to go down in weight. Pacquiao can go up or dwon from 140 to 147 easily, Mayweather can go from 147 to 154, Marquez can fight at 140-147. These guys don't come in more 2-3lbs heavier. They're good in training camp, they'll use their camp strictly for coming up with gameplans, and just a little bit of weight decrease. But you see Canelo at 170lbs, GGG at 170lbs, Kovalev at 188-190lbs and so on, these guys could benefit in training camp from moving up. They can make the weight yeah, they can make it okay, but they have to use up valuable time from their training camp to make it.
Kovalev is in the worst situation he doesn't have a CW frame but theres a huge gap in weight if he moves up. I remember Kov saying he wanted a weight class in between LW and CW.

i agree with the bolded, but lets not fool anybody, ggg and the wbc want canelo to keep the belt ...
now the 1lb deal is nothing but speculation at this point, neither fighter has offered to negotiate the weight, ggg said 160 only and canelo said 155... really hope this changes next year...

i already told you how i feel about cw when the title is on the line, but my point on the 155 weight is that canelo hasnt fought anybody at 160 before and ggg wasnt going to be the first one, if the fight is at 160 both can wait whatever they want under 160, both canelos last 4 fights were at 155 not 160... again canelo is asking ggg to do the same thing his last 4 opponents did, is no different other than a title is on the line...
