I found out why Lemieux accepted the GGG fight

If you remember after Lemieux beat N'Dam, Oscar was against Lemieux fighting GGG.
Lemieux promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy said they want to fight Golovkin -- but it won’t be next. Golden Boy has been informed that Lemieux must make a mandatory defense before Dec. 20. Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs), 26, will be formally notified by the IBF on Oct. 20 that his mandatory is due. Theoretically, he could fight before then, but that is not going to happen, especially after such a rough fight with N’Dam.

“So we’ll see and we’ll take it from there, but David’s next fight will be the mandatory,” De La Hoya told ESPN.com. “But do we want to put him in with GGG? Absolutely, yes. Positively, yes. But it will have to wait until next year because of the mandatory.”

Then a month later it was announced that Lemieux would fight GGG. So what happened? Remember Lemieux's manager turning down an undercard slot on the Kovalev v. Pascal fight and saying he was looking for Lemieux to headline his own card? Yea, we all laughed.

Canadian star David Lemieux (34-3, 31KOs) will likely return to the ring in the early part of 2016, according to his longtime manager Camille Estephan of Eye of The Tiger Management. "He's taking some time off. Hopefully he will fight sometime in March or April," Estephan told BoxingScene.com. "[Lemieux] can still beat anybody at middleweight, I'm confident. We want the top guys, nothing has changed. We still want that. We're confident David has that [ability to beat the top guys]."

Well it turns out that Lemieux's manager got HBO to give Lemieux a date if he agreed to fight GGG.

Estephan said Lemieux’s next fight will be on HBO because the network owes him a return fight following the loss to Golovkin. That bout will likely take place in his hometown of Montreal.

Lemieux went from fighting on Fox Sports 2 to PPV to headlining his own HBO card. Damn good job by his manager Camille Estephan

HBO was interested in Lemieux Ndam however David's promotional status was unclear and they didn't want to get in a lawsuit. They liked what he brought vs Rosado

I bet Oscar relented to give Canelo some breathing room

HBO does this often, they gave Macklin the same deal in order to fight Golovkin. That said, Lemieux wasn't having trouble fighting on HBO, they aired the Rosado fight and wanted to air the N'Dam fight.

Lemieux's former promoter named HBO on a lawsuit vs Lemieux & GB and as result HBO refused to air any Lemieux fight until that lawsuit was resolved. By the time it was resolved, Lemieux was facing a deadline by the IBF of less than a month to make the fight with N'Dam happen or it would let N'Dam fight someone else, so HBO didn't have time to schedule the fight. GB had a deal with Fox back then, but even Fox didn't have time to schedule the fight on FS1, and had to use the far less popular FS2.

Lemieux took the fight because in addition to the US ppv money, he was given all of the Canadian ppv money. The NY commission reported his purse at $1.5mill, which NY gorged themselves on with their taxes - being a non-US citizen he loses 50% of that purse to Federal, State, and City taxes. They didn't touch his Canadian revenue. Lemieux turned down the undercard fight on Kovalev/Pascal because he'd have to share the gate & Canadian ppv with Pascal/Kovalev. Now he can headline his own card and take it all.

The lawsuit by GYM against Golden Boy hasn't been resolved yet. GYM also told HBO they wouldn't sue them for additional damages if they aired the Lemieux/N'dam fight. Gomez said it was a scheduling issue nothing to do with the lawsuit. That's why they went along and aired the GGG/Lemieux fight

This much is clear, David Lemieux and Hassan N'Dam are scheduled to fight for the IBF middleweight title that was formerly held by Jermain Taylor. What's not clear is just who will televise it in the States. Eric Gomez, the V.P. and matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, told BoxingScene.com on Monday morning - "We're waiting on HBO, there's a chance they can do it but it's a little difficult for them because of their scheduling. But we gotta do this within 90 days( from the IBF purse bid) so there's time constraints. So if all else fails we're going to check to see if Fox(Sports1) wants to do it."

Of course he wouldn't share a gate with Pascal and Kovalev because HBO had already promised him a date for fighting GGG.

Lemieux got balls. See how easy fights get made when fighters got balls? Compare that with ducks and chickens.

Lemieux vs Willie Monroe coming soon hopefully then. Rooting for Monroe to get thrown a bone by HBO & this seems like a decent fight to make.

Why do you keep on repeating that lie, when you know it's a lie?

Seems like this is more about money than balls. HBO made it a no lose situation. "Beat GGG & you are the man in the division & bout to have money thrown at you or lose to GGG & get a hometown headlining HBO fight where you're sure to make nice bank with your popularity there". Obviously better if he beat GGG than he didn't, but lotsa guys lose their big HBO fight to get their ass sent back to ESPN2 (back in the day anyway) or FoxSports 1 or not on TV at all.
