  • Comments Thread For: Travis Barker: Golovkin Beats Canelo, Won't Beat Mayweather

Musician Travis Barker is a big fan of boxing. One of his good friends is retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.

This past weekend, Barker came out to support Mayweather's charity basketball game. Prior to the game, Barker discussed some of the current topics in boxing.

He does beat Canelo but would probably beat Floyd too seeing as Floyd has no business at 160, he barely does at 154. Obviously Barker is just saying good things about Floyd because he is friendly with him but you have to be realistic. Floyd is great, one of the best to ever lace them up but nobody could ever say he should fight GGG unless they hate him and want him to lose.

GGG would be a stretch too far for Floyd in terms of size and strength. But it's really testament to his greatness that he would have to go up to 160 against the best MW in the world by far for someone to possibly beat him. Essentially to a place he doesn't belong anyway. The guy is basically unbeatable around his weight class.

No, actually anyone from 126 to 140 would beat Floyd! There are no great fighters in his division so should fightggg at 160. Can't pick on small fighters coming off of kos all the time
Or fight csnelo at 160, no cw

At 154 I think Floyd has a very good chance at getting the UD. Golovkin will be 34 years old and having to cut to a weight he hasn't been at in years. The weight cut would take a lot out of him. GGG's only advantage over Floyd is size and strength. I don't believe he's a better boxer than Floyd or that he's quicker. What he is, is a lot stronger than Floyd. If you take away GGG's strength then you'll take away his primary asset.

But at 160, Golovkin would be too much for Floyd, especially at Floyd's age.

Now that Floyd is retired, FIomos will say he can beat Triple G...but when he was active they said "Triple G is too big for Lil' Floyd."

And if people want to see Floyd at 160 with GGG it don't mean people hate Floyd. Its because GGG is very good at that weight and people want to see if Floyd could do to GGG what he does at the lower weights? Uncertainty about what would happen is what is intriguing. When fights are foregone conclusion that's when people aren't interested

All people want are good fights and I'm sure Floyd could make it interesting to see the problems he'd pose GGG.GGG looks good when he is hitting you, let's see how he reacts when he can't hit you?

It's the safe prediction. But Canelo is only getting better. After a quick tune-up he'll be ready for September.
