Right now there's better odds that Canelo/GGG happens over Kovalev/Ward.

Canelo/GGG will happen. Golden Boy wants to get another fight for Canelo first, which is fine. But I'd bet good money Canelo/GGG happens in the fall.

Ward is in a catch 22, his high purse demands, won't leave enough for a quality opponent and he's not a big enough name for PPV. He'll have to compromise but his ego won't allow it.

Most of these guys know that they'll lost to ward, so they want to be compensated for it (ala Edwin Rodriguez), no one is going to risk their record for "peanuts".

Ward will not fight a guy like Periban, he will fight Barrera or Shabranskyy or another fighter of that caliber (top-15 to 20 fighter with upside, likely undefeated).

Be careful. Steve Kim is MANAGING EDITOR of boxingscene.

                      He's an excellent boxing journalist.
