He will not come anywhere near a real threat or else he would have fought Adonis when he had the chance instead of trying to wait him out.
Kovalev didn't just beat Hopkins. He outboxed him easily, put him on his ass and almost knocked him out when B-Hop started snowboating in the 12th round.

That was the most one sided loss of Hopkins' career.

But I think he can get clocked by that disgraceful pimp. I hope he won't, though.

He'll get a better payday against Kovalev. The fight can be in Florida where there are a lot of Cuban boxing fans (Kovalev isn't a prima donna who demands home advantage) and on HBO.
      How do you figure?

Mohameddi got $275k to fight Kovalev for the title. Ward offered Barrera $300k.

Why do you want Andre Ward to pay opponents way above and beyond market value? Do you dislike him that much?

That kind of hatred isn't healthy.

Brand, Rohan and Dunn agree with you.

To add a little context, those opponents were being considered for a fight on short notice.

I just double checked Ward's resume and I didn't see those names listed. I did see Kessler, Abraham, Froch, and Dawson though. I also read Ward signed a contract for a Kovalev fight next year.

I guess you can't please everyone.

Mohameddi has no fan base, at least not in the Western hemisphere, hence the $275,000 payday. Besides, the fight was a mismatch.

Barrera however has Cuban fan support in Florida, and the fight would do well there in terms of gate revenue. Barrera could make something like $500,000 fighting Kovalev in Miami. I'm not saying he's a household name, but unlike Mohammedi he does have fans. It could be telecast in Latin countries, hence more revenue. And unlike Mohameddi, Barrera would at least have a chance of defeating Kovalev, and so there would be more fan interest.

Ward would never fight Barrera in Florida, he'd want the fight in California so he would have the assistance of a home referee to would permit him to use illegal tactics.

Although I'm not from Florida, I think you're being generous in your estimate of how much Barrera's Cuban fan base will generate. You're also being optimistic about how much he can make in a mando vs Kovalev.

Just be honest and admit you don't like Ward, that will make your comments more palatable....it's confusing when you pretend to be reasonable.

But having twitter fans does not equate to gate-sales.

You could be right, I know very little about that stuff, but doesn't Ward sell out Oakland?

Not saying that they should fight in Oakland, because it really doesn't matter..... I'm just saying that if you think that gate-sales should determine the location, wouldn't you go with the known/proven guy who has done it before?

They can fight in greenland for all I care, it would not change a thing.
