As far as the job goes they are not equals. Lampley is a color commentator while Bernstein is the boxing analyst. Lampley does a lot more talking since he's doing the play by play.

Who is the better ringside announcer; HBO's J. Lampley or SHO's A. Bernstein?

Wouldn't a fairer comparison be between Bernstein, and Kellerman? As they have similar roles to each other. Either way, Bernstein is the best announcer in boxing IMO

the should've got rid of lampley's cheer leading azz years ago.....****, ****, ****....Another straight left, and another(yet the punches clearly missed)
everyone has their favorites but dang Lampley and Merchant were blatant bigots
How can you trash the guy that's winning? They did this in Roy Jones fights, Floyd, and others

I prefer my boxing commentators to be unbiased and straight down the middle. Bernstein by the proverbial mile.

**** lampley
He's a social ********* that used his mouth to brainwash slow people into thinking manny beat Marquez the 3rd time

Al Bernstein is a color analyst.
Lampley is the play by play guy.
two different job functions.
the poll above tells me people hate on lampley because of his allegiances to certain fighters. Lampley is the best play by play guy arguably in the history of boxing although he is incredibly more past prime than both floyd and manny combined.
far too many times Lampley looks like he's on the sauce mispronouncing words incorrectly describing the action etc.... but as far as historically, Lampley is a legend. His voice and his calls in some of the biggest fights in history will be remembered forever.
