Comments Thread For: Andy Lee: Only I'd Give Golovkin a Serious Challenge

Andy Lee says he wants to fight middleweight king Gennady Golovkin because he'd be the first fighter to give him "serious problems".

Lee, the WBO middleweight world champion will take on challenger Billy Joe Saunders in Manchester on Saturday night, in his first official defence since winning the title a year ago.

Should Lee (34-2-1-KO24) come through the bout, he says he would want the chance to take on Golovkin, who is expected to face Saul Alvarez in the autumn, claiming he has the size and the power to give the 33-year-old problems.

Lee wins and he is in the driver seat for big fights.

Im fine with either Lee v Jacobs or GGG...if he wins

Id love if Gennady is the first person in boxing to fight two top opponents on the same night. He should fight Jacobs first and then Lee on the same night. Gennady is the only fighter in boxing history who could beat multiple P4P fighters on the same night. That's says a lot about his greatness.

I really hope Lee wins and wins by ko. I hope he goes after Jacobs too. I think he'd be able to get a late stoppage on him. It would be a great build up for the GGG-Lee fight

I like Andy Lee but i don't see what he brings to the table against Golovkin except a big punch.

He can be easily outboxed, isn't particularly quick, has been knocked out a couple of times, no real great defence, no real awkwardness or anything. Unless he lands an absolutely thunderous shot that nobody could take then i expect him to get stalked and knocked out in a few rounds similar to how Macklin did.

Andy Lee is correct in that he has power and size but he is always a KO waiting to happen. The GGG fight would just be his 3rd KO loss in his career. He looked average against an average fighter like Quillin, who GGG fans think so lowly of. So I don't see how they would turn around and all of sudden see GGG vs Lee as a great fight. I don't think Lee puts Canelo or Cotto in any danger if he fought them, let alone GGG. I mean Chavez Jr and Brian Vera twice, were never in any danger vs Lee. He is not really a dangerous fighter, the Korobov upset is giving him a false sense of being dangerous. He is tall and powerful but what is tall and powerful when you never really show its effectiveness at the top level?

Be nice to see Lee win he will actually have the balls to fight GGG unlike BJS.

Lee has a chance on sheer size and height.

Lee's got balls, he's a fight fan's fighter. Hope he gets through Saunders, I would love to see him step up against Gennady Golovkin.

this is why I want Lee to win, he is one of the few that really want to prove himself in the ring with GGG.
