how would u react if hbo and showitme dropped boxing from there proggraming?????

like basically they said boxing isnt netting them any profit and they would no longer air boxing as a part of theere sports programming??

    is it a realistic posibility??

and if it did happen,is it a good thing or a bad thing??assuming haymon picks up all the slack and puts them on free TV instead of monthy premium channels like hbo and showtime, which cost upwards of $15-$30 extra on TOP of ur cable package

but once you start putting top fighters back on network TV and cable, the HBO and showtime boxing models don't work anymore.

HBO has been the standard bearer for a very very long time. decades. so it could take 5-10 years for a serious challenger to knock them off the perch and make them want to pack up shop.

but if you look at the future of HBO, and their ultimate battle being against netflix, and the change in consumption for HBO NOW vs traditional HBO . . . longterm, it really doesn't make any sense for HBO to remain in the boxing business.

doesn't mean they'd be going away any time soon though.
        good points,

i do notice that haymon does give showtime some of the bigger-scale type of fights tho, like broner, wilder, chavez jr, and quillin/jacobs were all on showtime, plus a few more this year despite being "pbc" fighter

Give them? No. He has them pay for them.

He has Showtime pay for the fights with the really big name fighters, and he makes sure those fighters get extra big purses that come out of Showtimes budget.

Fights on PBC come out of Haymons warchest. Showtimes pays for the fights Haymon puts on Showtime.

            Must be nice.

Espinoza has continually said he thinks PBC is a great idea because it gives the guys that otherwise fight on Showtime a lot more exposure or whatever, so when they come back and fight on Showtime it would, in theory, get them all better ratings.

                  ........ yeah.

But he put all his chips in with Haymon a few years back so I guess he doesn't really have any choice.

There would alway be another channel that would come in, when Skysports cut their boxing budget over here, it gave other people a chance to bring boxing back to the people. The only thing was boxers would not get paid as much as they use to due to that.
