There is one NFL championship team at a time, but there is also an AFL championship team, an NCAA championship team, etc. The NCAA champions are trophy holders, but they are also champions. They are both. It is not an either/or.

The silver champion is a champion. The intercontinental champion is a champion. Again, look up the word. You don't get to invent your own definitions for words. Maybe the reason you think others aren't proficient in English is because you don't understand the language.

You ask me who the heavyweight champion is, but don't ask me what they're the heavyweight champion of? That's like me asking you who the running champion is. Without more detail, there isn't an answer.

If your strategy is to attack my level of intellect, you're not going to have much success. My intellectual credentials speak for themselves. Perfect SAT score at 10 years old. College at 11 years old. Made my first million when I was still a teenager. Genius IQ on all recognized and accepted tests.

Attack the argument, not the person. Not everybody on this site is a loser posting from their mom's basement.

The IBF are sticking to their own rules aren't they?

The problem isn't that the IBF are engaging in some cynical shit, it's that the IBF exists in the first place.

The IBF is just following their own rules, but this may be a case where they wish they hadn't. Fury is the hot ticket at the moment. Anyone or anything associated with him automatically gains some measure of that cachet. The IBF are now stuck with an unknown guy in Martin or a completely unmarketable robot in Glaskov. Meanwhile the rest of the world thinks they're a bunch of pricks for stripping Fury in the first place. It's not exactly a great look for them.

It wasnt step-aside that Duva wouldnt negotiate, it was the fight itself. She thought she was being clever, but in reality she blew it. She was still negotiating on one hand for the Wilder fight, and on the other trying to send Fury-Glasgov to purse bid to see which was the better deal. But that was silly because that move blocked Fury from trying to petition the IBF for an extension. IBF rules do not allow for an extension once a purse bid has been ordered. At that point, Fury just said "the heck with Duva" and didnt bother trying a step-aside.

So once all that happened, I think Duva figured out how much egg she had on her face and just said oh well lets fight Martin for the vacant title and maybe Haymon will over pay.

I get it. IBF are sticking to their rules. Fury agreed to the rematch. Fury knew the score.

Still, it's a shame. I love seeing people unify, but it's a hard ask theses days.

I hope Martin knocks Glazkov out. Duvas plan would just backfire in her face

Exactly. The HW division, with the Klitschko reign, has avoided much of the sanctioning body BS, but now it seems the IBF (and, I suspect, the WBA will follow suit...) are determined to force upon us 'self-proclaimed' champions.

This isn't good for boxing. It just makes potential title/unification bouts even more unlikely and trickier to negotiate.

Fury is the HW champion - he beat Wladimir. The rest are chumps.

I find it funny that people are talking about actual "rules" being enforced in pro boxing. Are you for real? It's boxing. There are no rules. It's a free for all.
Otherwise there would only be one champion and one #1 ranked fighter for each division. Imagine the World Series of Baseball or the Stanley Cup of Hockey being competed for and all of a sudden some other random group comes out with their own version of the title of Championship team. Unfortunately, this is the sad reality of boxing, a sport that demands more physically and mentally than any other sport and can find no room for legitimacy or operating standards.
