I'm surprised no one has brought this up sooner in this thread. it's shocking HBO kept him on after that because that was blatant racism, him ridiculing his faith

lampley also never bothers to properly learn fighters' names, hbo covers world championship boxing yet this doesn't seem to be a priority for them. I think rigondeaux even complained about it before the cotto-canelo fight. Michael Buffer does and he barely only has to do call them half a dozen times a night

I also always hate it when lampley complains about difficult pronunciations and then utters some anekdote like it's relevant

Always a certain race of people playing the victim/race-card permanently, it's pathetic, grow up you're like little girls.

No it wasn't. Naz had said that God had written the result of the fight. Lampley said that God clearly knows how to write 'Barrera'.

Please explain how this was "the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races" - which is the definition of racism.

lampley has covered many boxers from the ******,most boxers come from poor backgrounds,,however he has never told any of them to "get ******" like he did kirk;land
lol I forgot he was and to think no one would even know if he didnt get pulled over going for a cruise lol.

but back to that ****** thing, you say he never called any other boxer that so are you insuiting he said that cause kirkland is black?

I honestly think its contrary to that, he is actually calling kirkland ****** cause he is, if he was saying it cause he was black surely he would be saying it about other black boxers he has covered.

Jim is educated and articulate enough to NOT have to use the term "******".....if he had made that reference in previous fights from fighters of different nationalities then it wouldn't be a issue...example, "Martinez is controlling Chavez Jr. and winning every round....Chavez needs to use his size and push Martinez back to the ropes and go ****** on him"....but he didn't!!

So that would make ANYBODY with a bit of common sense think the reference was made because Kirkland is African American....which is most likely the case here....people may get technical and say people of ALL nationalities live in ******s....but this is African American slang we're talking about

If someone is acting a certain way, we'll say "why you acting so ******"...if a chick is behaving or talking in a certain way we'll say "B*tch take your ****** ass in the house" or something like that....it's AFRICAN AMERICAN slang and Lamps is knowledgeable enough to know how that term is used in urban cities across America

Issues like this reminds me of watching a fight....one guy gets hit and it looks like it doesn't hurt because his opponent didn't show the type of reaction a fighter normally does when hit hard....but the guy who took the punch may feel different about the shot than the audience do....he may have felt some type of power that he has to RESPECT because the shot did in fact sting him.....in this case, African Americans (who understand how the term is used) may feel different than non African Americans about Lamps ignorance....it is what it is!!...Lamps been suspected of being bigot for years....this is just another example why

This relentless playing of the race card by some fans on this site is completely out of hand. God knows there's plenty of real racism in American society, but these ****heads just want to use race to defend fighters they like and attack commentators who criticise their favourite fighters. The same weak arguments were being used to cast Larry Merchant as a white supremacist and label Emanuel Steward an Uncle Tom.

Do they not feel any sort of anxiety or discomfort in doing this? Trivialising an issue as serious as racism by using it to score points in internet boxing arguments? It's an embarrassment.

While I agree with this point, Posters, announcers and anyone in public is generally smart enough not to do thing in a clear, overt way because of the expected backlash. Instead,They use coded language that ********** easily pick up and are equally offended by.

Pointing out when this happens isn't trivializing the issue or playing the race card.

You constantly offended posters are borderline insane. I think it is a pathological thing with you guys; I don't really know any other explanation. Somebody makes ONE comment that you don't like and you think their livelihood should be taken away. It's pretty absurd. Like an inverse of the 1950s red scare.

I honestly don't think you can be a public commentator in the US without saying something that constitutes a fireable offense. Everything is offensive now, so you will eventually catch the wrath of the internet thought police.

In a sport full of corruption, cheaters, pimps, wife beaters, and rapists you get worked up over someone saying "******". Jesus Christ...

This woman recieved 20+ million dollars from this, so you have to consider that she might've made up the story or at least exaggarated what really happened to get that money, not saying that he did it or not, not saying I know what happened, nobody knows except these 2, but I consider all possibilities.

Floyd didn't defend Ray Rice hitting that woman (who actually slapped him first), he was against a personal issue getting in the way of the man's career, which is the total opposite of professionalism, whatever I do in my personal life is none of my employer's business, nobody should get punished for one thing twice, once by the law and once by the employer who has nothing to do with the man's personal life, there's police and court who get paid millions of dollars of taxpayers money to take care of such things, the NFL should have nothing to do with it. And ypu know that if Ray Rice was flipping burgers and did something similar, he might've been punished by the law but he wouldn't have gotten fired from his job. I totally agree with this point of view.

Lampley once again showed his unprofessionalism by bringing up someone's personal issues in a supposedly professional enviroment (the fight game), this is supposed to be a broadcast about boxing, so keep it boxing and stay away from people's personal issues especially if you want people to stay away from your personal stuff, that's not what people pay to see, I pay to see boxing, not personal life drama.
I disagree with your take on Floyd. Of course, none of us were there but Floyd pleaded guilty when it actually mattered and Floyd has a long, documented history of arrests for violence against women from before he was rich to when he was already rich. Plus, he has made many comments throughout the years that indicate that he thinks of women as only property. It is clear that Floyd has serious women issues, and it would be straight denial to claim anything different.

Now, I'm not going to condemn Floyd forever. Obviously, his upbringing from his father and his uncle taught him some pretty horrible lessons about how to treat women. Hopefully, in time (maybe through therapy) he can overcome his issues, but it was absolutely ok for Lampley or anyone else to call Floyd out on this.

The personal stories of boxers (both good and bad) has always and will always be a part of the narrative when a fight is being called.
