Standing 8 count is against the rules. Quillen should have taken a knee, but he was so far gone there was no way he could make such a decision. As you saw, he was standing in the corner still out of it, and didn't protest the stoppage. Though I feel like the ref could have let him go, the boxing enthusiast in me knows Quillen was one punch away from being a doormat.

Yeah, i get that, but the ref could ask him if he's ok, and ask him to put his hands up, then let him go on, but stay close. We have seen ppl recover from situation worse than this. Names come to mind are Bradley, Cotto, Holt, Pavlik, even Mayweather himself was rocked badly by Mosley.

You dont seem to get it. No standing 8 count means the ref cant stop the fight unless he is actually stopping it.

If the ref stops the fight because he is concerned one fighter is unable to continue from receiving too many punches, that is him calling a TKO, which is what he did.

and 8 or 9 with david lemieux who was stopped by rubio
there is no way golovkin couldve done this he's not as "atletic" as jacobs or nowhere near as FAST

Yeah your right. Lets automatically assume Jacobs would probably kill GGG in the first round. Jacobs should be heavily favored due to completely better skills, speed and athleticism. Also his resume is now massively more impressive due to having beat one guy now that is not a can. GGG will probably immediately go after the 10th rated MW guy now.

I was not impressed with Jacobs win in his last fight & I am not impressed with his win over Quillin. He caught a cold Quillin who never really got on track & I do think the ref should have let the fight continue b/c a lot of fighters recover quickly after getting caught like that. For instance, Mosley really cracked Mayweather a couple of good ones but Mayweather recovered and was taking it to Mosley when the bell sounded If there's a rematch & Jacobs wins it, then I'll be impressed.
