His comeback fight was 172 because it had been 2 years. He and his team sent GGG an offer for a 168 fight in 2016 and he was turned down and sent to fight Kovalev by HBO.

Golovkin Ward won't happen because Ward can't make 168, he could have made it for maybe another fight or two, but he's struggling and HBO won't risk Golovkin going to 168 to fight a bum that no ones cares about. Same reason why Ward Kovalev hasn't happened yet, Ward has to be built and the public have to see that he's back and he's still as good as before.

Ward really thinks HBO would just give him Golovkin at 168 when he brings nothing to the table to be taking that risk and going through the trouble, if they were in the same class it probably could've happened already.

lol, well so far his biggest "challenge" is getting commissions to approve the slobs he wants to fight haha

Martinez gets $1.5m, Golovkin gets $500k.

Before paying for a co-feature bout, getting some money to the promoters of the fight, covering the rest of the undercard, etc, you've already spent the entire night's budget that HBO has been giving K2 to put on Golovkin fights.

What do you imagine HBO's budget for Sergio Martinez's prior fights was, when he was openly willing to bend over to Cotto for $1.5m? lol

              Nice try.
Andre Ward, as of the ESPN SportsNation interview not too long ago, walks around at 180lbs; Sergey Kovalev likely walks around at 200lbs, as can be said for basically every other light heavyweight fighter sans maybe Bernard Hopkins.

HBO put their price at picking up Ward's next three fights at going to 175 for fight Kovalev, Ward and his camp looked at it, and they felt confident enough to go forward with the deal.

If you want to try and discredit outside observers seeing a guy who walks around at 180lbs being compelled to fight guys walking around at 200lbs, that's on you.

He said that, at some point in his career, he wants to challenge for the heavyweight title. When then posed with the question of having to possibly face a Klitschko, Ward defaulted to the fighter trope of "if I'm on my game, I'm good enough to beat anybody".

                  try again

Damn straight Martinez would have got 1.5 Million for a middleweight unification fight. Stop talking nonsense
lol Golovkin was only able to make $1.5m because Willie Monroe only took $100k. How about you try and average out the three fights before that.

For argument's sake, you should probably try averaging out Martinez's prior three fight purses as well.
