although im not sure about him being techniclly a hw, roy was extremly fast for a hw. also, ali and patterson were quick as hell too. tyson was fast, but not THAT fast. i feel as though his speed was overrated because people were not used to seeing such strong power punches coming so fastComment

ali's handspeed is part of his self promotion. ali was an arm puncher first and foremost - in no way, shape, or form was he an explosive puncher. it's really important to analyze that ali's style and size helped create the illusion of unchanged supremacy. this is however not the case as dempsey and louis both could uncork combinations with violent capacity.
ali had the quickest feet out of any heavyweight, but his speed was part of the illusion that ali himself created. also don't forget, ali had a huge reach advantage that allowed him to do a flicking and poking jab as opposed to a stiff, accurate jab that tyson, louis, dempsey all used.Comment
