You can't conflate the two situations, they are vastly different.

The difference is that CANELO went up to fight the LINEAL MW champ in his first fight at the division and beat him.

GOLOVKIN had the opportunity to go up and fight the LINEAL SMW champ but passed on the opportunity entirely.

Golovkin never took the risk, that's the difference, and it's as simple as that.

Canelo did 900k
Golovkin did 150k


If you accept Glaser's numbers:
Canelo did 650k
Golovkin did 97k

Any way you slice it or interpret it, the cold hard truth remains: in ALL of the aforementioned scenarios, Canelo did at least 6x the amount of buys that Golovkin did. That's a fact.
