Gatti did go crazy. He committed suicide.
To answer your question though, some fighters show no signs of brain damage their entire lives and others get punchy and in their twenties. It's all a genetic lottery.
Have you taken some brain damage yourself? Why are you reacting so aggressively to my post?Comment

He use to be the most well mannered and respectful of boxers. He is unfortunately now a poster child for the changes that brain damage can have on a person.
Clear frontal lobe damage is evident from his behavior patterns. And just from watching his fight, and the way he always leaned forward and ate punches straight in the middle of his face.
Also, while respectful and well behaved, he was never the brightest of fighters, and with brain injury, base intelligence in the strongest predictor of outcome.
Which is why often the smarter fighters come out with other symptoms but not the drastic personality changes.Comment

I think thats dumb to say that some fighters come out with no signs of brain damage. They all come out with signs of brain damage. Even a large portion of amateur fighters do to a small extent...Gatti did go crazy. He committed suicide.

I fought amateur for quite a while, and even though I fought fairly slick, I noticed changes in simple things. I would make more mistakes typing, would think one word than type another, etc... small changes... Thanks to neuroplasticity, most of those effects have gone since I have stopped.
But in a game where you get hit in the head almost every day. There are going to be changes in everyone. Nobody is immune.
One thing that still lingers is that I'll set something down, and after turning walking away to get something else, I will have no memory of where I set it down. That didn't happen before boxing.
Not the big slurring your words changes or changes that other people would notice, but everyone is effected in some way. Its the nature of the sport. And I still love it.
Because the positive changes it made in my life, and my confidence, and developing me as a man were worth the little things.
With fighters like Taylor though, where you make a living from having very hard hitting fighter scrambling your brain every day in training camp, and then get very badly KOed several times, the brain changes become very clear and obvious to everyone that sees him.
Its just unfortunate that everyone doesn't recognize that these changes are a result of brain damage, and not the result of Taylor being a crazy *******.Comment
