Wlad has always been mentally weak, he plays it very safe, and is lost outside of the rigid confines of his own comfort (inside of which he is incredible). Fury masterfully executed a plan designed to remain outside of Wlad's little sandbox, leaving him sad and forlorn and not wanting to play.
