Basically a derogatory name for anyone from the traveller/gypsy community. Actually in the UK, travellers are protected against the racial discrimination act. So to call them a ***** is the same as a white man calling a black man a ******.

Also there are Romani gypsies, which Billy Joe Saunders is. He's Romnichal, a kind of sub group of Romani gypsies. So often people will label Fury and Saunders as the same thing but actually they're different.

The term ***** is offensive to Irish Travellers like Fury rather than Saunders though. I remember Saunders not being offended by it because he said he's Romani anyway, but people will still try to use it as a derogatory term.

Actually, most of them don't integrate into "normal society", they often don't go through the normal education systems and they class everyone else as outsiders basically. A lot live in caravans not houses. Also a lot still have an Irish accent that they never lost even with a few generations living in England, simply because they don't integrate outside of their community. It's a bit like how Amish people who spoke Pennsylvania Dutch accent in the USA still keep that accent because they don't mix outside of the Amish community.

Fury and his family don't have that accent. I'd imagine his family have lived more in the more every day society than a lot of travellers do.

however, there are two three types of what mainstream society call *****s (gypsies) the first which im gonna talk about are the most hated and disgusting and these are the irish travellers which (and your right) mostly live in caravans at the side of the road or on a piece of land in a desolate corner of an industrial estate, first of all these are/were known as "irish tinkers" in days of old when they used to knock peoples doors and offer to repair old kettles and tin pots etc using their manual skills to earn a few quid before their kind evolved into thieving filth. the second kind of "travellers" are the fairground people who strongly believe they are nothing to do the irish type of traveller and are probably the only real working, travelling people still around today. lastly, the "redskin" romany gypsies which as far as living in caravans go, is in the dim and distant past now these, are what people call gypsies and not tinkers. yes, the mainstream call them all *****s and i do use the term "*****" loosely in that regard but, theres "irish tinkers" a.k.a. stinkers and thieves. THE FIGHTING: all these people have travelling and fighting in their blood but this originally comes from the fairground people who are the most genuine and trustworthy of the three type of travelling people. i have over the years found myself in either casual contact with gypsies (when i was a teenager getting into trouble) and also know two fellahs from the chipperfield (fairground people) family. i have and do work on many jobs where irish travellers are skulkin around and usually lookin for access to either property or the weak. im not sayin furys ancestors are scum and im not saying that a legal way of earning his living is shameful but, BUT, the modern day type of irish traveller IS and that is a stone cold fact.
its ok for him to say hes from a travelling family or else but, people who are just narrow minded or thick will associate this with the thieves and robbers who kids dont go to school and potential wives of men you dont see for some reason on big fat gypsy weddings! the redskins.....their a dying breed as are the fairground people because of theme parks.

if anybody has ever heard of derbyday here in the u.k, its a horse race held at the epsom downs racetrack anyway, i was around 25 and on derby day having a drink in the "tatenhams" which is a pub in the edge of the downs.
i was stood at the bar with the lads when a wad of notes is being clubbed on my shoulder from behind...i turned around, (oh god here we go) its a ***** (irish traveller about 18 yrs old) "a grand for your shirt boy" i said no thanks mate and turned back to the bar knowing hes not going away then, hes pushin and shovin...the pub landlord comes over..."go on out ya go, no gypsies allowed in here" with that hes gone but, a fellah with a huge golf ball sized swollen eye come over and says to me "i laughed because he was just a kid and the dad gave me this because if you fight him and win your fighting the ole man next and never winning any money". this was because of the numbers of them. i know a couple of welsh fellahs who are into bare knuckle who DO dare to take the fights but never take the cash on the day because we know what would happen to it. so, yes fighting is in their heritage but for all the wrong reasons, your never gonna beat a ***** and walk away with the cash and anybody who thinks they are.....thicker than the *****.
