I'm sorry no, that early UFC was filled with martial arts practitioners from martial arts that don't work. You can't stick Mayweather in with a fcking can who weighs 175 lbs and say look there's a weight difference that makes up for the monumental skill difference.
He fought Ron van Clief, a guy who literally made up his own martial art, had one fight with Royce, got submitted and then left the sport. Kimo Leopoldo was a good ish fighter, Art Jimmerson, I mean wtf, seriously he had a background in boxing and a pretty crappy boxing record with no ground game and this is a win for the greatest UFC fighter of all time?! DeLucia was a good fighter, Shamrock was a great fighter. Severn was a good fighter, Tarō was a bloody sumo wrestler, he had no right being in that ring no matter what he weighed.
The majority of the guys Gracie fought were actually cans, like not 'adrian broner got exposed' cans but literally they weren't even real fighters. He still took steroids, got caught, he's a cheater there's not even an argument he tried to cheat. Royce Gracie get's my respect for building MMA into a respectable sport and he's one of the early greats but he would get smashed to bits if Prime Royce was in the UFC today.
The guys Gracie fought often only had backgrounds in a single martial art, because when the UFC first came about it was 'to find the best martial art' or whatever. GSP, Silva (also a cheat, but I still love him, but still a cheat), Fedor, Penn, Couture, Jones, Hughes all better than him.
