Can we get some context, backstory, or history from someone in Mexico or from Mexico? This is the third time I've seen the Mexican press saying Cotto won. Is Canelo not as loved in Mexico as we're thought to believe? I'm confused as to why a Mexican TV station would pick a Puerto Rican over a Mexican by such a large margin? The fight was semi-close but Canelo won. Were they this harsh to Chavez Jr' in the first Vera fight?

I saw his 'explanation' on facebook. He says he's a "Canelista" or Canelo-supporter and hopes Canelo has success for another 10 years. He said there was an image circulating the web where it shows the score totals of many Canelistas who scored the fight for Canelo except him. The intent of this according to him was to ridicule him because they don't like him. He said this list failed to show that MAB and JCC Sr. also had Cotto winning. He said he too can compile a list of 50 to 100 experts that saw Cotto win. He said another TV station convinced JCC Sr. to change his score.


He said he thought Cotto won because he had a more elegant boxing style, ala Martinez vs Chavez Jr. He said that tells him he practiced this style in the gym and he was able to execute his plan to perfection during the fight giving him good results.

He said Canelo's harder punches didn't convince him because he missed most of them. He said the punches Canelo did connect had less value than the punches that Cotto landed from the outside because they were more consistent.

He reiterated it was all Cotto in there strategy wise and that everything else is just subjective.

I think he's wrong.

Lol, it was a close fight but Canelo held on and finished strong. Props to Cotto though still has alot left in him.

I thought Canelo overall stunned Cotto too many times for this to be true. Has to be politics in Mexico causing such bias. The fight was close but clear for Canelo. Cotto would get hammered then take a step back and put up his upside down chicken wing as if that's some semblance of a defense. Canelo SHOULD have battered Cotto more when he did those poses as he was clearly vulnerable, but puzzlingly, he did not. He seemed to give Cotto too much respect..or doesn't know how to follow up on his work. Either way, it only made the difference between a lopsided win/ko and a close but clear win.

Canelo has some frustrating habits but he still won that fight. Period
