    • I can understand him being pissed about the cards they were wide. But Canelo still won the fight. It just wasn't the white wash the cards claim. I gave Cotto 4 rounds but I feel I was being generous to him -- probably due to commentators (box nation) who were on Cotto's nuts for the first part of the fight. Once or twice early on I was thinking .. 'I reckon Canelo edged that one, definitely landed the cleaner, harder shots' and then Bary Jones comes out and says 'clear round for cotto there masterful boxing etc'

3 rounds for cotto might be more accurate tbh. Every round I gave cotto was close.

        • I'm rescoring the fight right now. A few rounds in. Just a few impressions so far.

As I mentioned in another post I don't think this fight is as easy to score as the peanut gallery is making it seem. Fast paced action - high speed chess, if you will - and both fighters were picking off punches and slipping well defensively throughout whilst turning and rotating their man in transition.

There wasn't a seat in the arena anyone could have seen even most of what was going on at any give time. Certainly nobody watching this match on television or online could tell what was actually landing and what wasn't, in two dimensions.

The difference so far in the first few rounds has been, from what I can best tell, is say two or three punches going either way at the bell. Possibly less. And if you're having hard time deciding what scored and what didn't I can see where this gets confusing.

The only ones who know what really happened, in total summation, are Cotto and Canelo themselves and in the immediate aftermath of the closing bell it was Cotto who seemed the more confident man. He was smiling and seemed excited with the outcome when he was getting his shirt put back on in a moment of exchange with Roach that stood out.. He "bossed" Canelo when they paid their respects. Kissed him on the forehead, ect.

Canelo was more muted. He didn't seem to really perk up until he asked Hopkins with a hand gesture what he thought the outcome was and Bernard gestured emphatically with a head nod in the affirmative. It was only then that Canelo's spirits seem to fully rise although he seemed generally fine from beginning to end and only so much can be read into things of this sort.

          • Cotto ain't win. And imo it wasn't a draw either. 7-5, 8-4 are ok scores. Past that is a little wide.

            • EXTREMELY proud of COTTO... fight didn't diminish or tarnish an otherwise fantastic career... faculties intact with money in the bank...fought valiantly despite size/age disadvantages...truly has nothing to be angry about...

              • I had it 117-111, but 115-113 is realistic too, cannot find a 6th round to give to Cotto, but it wouldn't be insane if someone else could.

I thought there were a lot of close rounds. I'd say Canelo clearly won 6 rounds, Cotto Clearly won 2 rounds, and 4 rounds could go either way, I gave 3 of those 4 either way rounds to Canelo, someone else might have given 3 of those 4 close rounds to Cotto and came up with 115-113 and that's a good score card too. Someone might have given Canelo all 4 of those close rounds and scored it 118-110, that's a good score too IMO. 119-109 is really pushing it, but not insane.

This was not an easy fight to score, but it was in no way a robbery, Canelo clearly won.

Some of it dates to years of people comparing canelo to his son and saying he was better then his son. So he is biased as all of hell. Every other major media outlets had canelo winning. And look at the narrate after the fight everyone asking and wants canelo to fight GGG not cotto again. If the fight were close it was lock for a rematch the fans would be demanding it. But canelo won comfortably he's on to bigger and better things. Fans want canelo to fight GGG. Cotto needs to go back to 154 and rebound from the loss or retire. If he fights canelo again what different strategy can he use? He couldn't outbox him and if he slugs with him he will be put to sleep. He'll be older next year and his chances of winning will decrease.
I agree 100%! Cotto and most of his fans need to admit he was in over his head. Its plan B time!

Gotta think after a week of thinking about it and watching it a few times Cotto will come back down to reality.
