I agree it was a chess match

The first 4 rounds were very competive and cotto did great moving, jabbing, throw combos and dictating pace, but after 4 rds it became clear that Cotto couldnt hurt Canelo, and Canelo treated him like a sparring partner after that.. Canelo had no respect for cotto's punching power and basically did what he wanted down the stretch

Why you in every thread talking about how bad Cotto lost? Seems like your trying to convince the non obvious. If it was soo damn once sided let the fight speak for itself, you don't need to be in every thread explaining how dominated he got.

True,,, I just think Cotto needs to be fighting small 154 or 147 fighter,, he really has no business fighting big 154 or middleweights..

Let Cotto fight a bradley, thurman, charo, Andrade, Maidana, etc and Cotto will be much more effective because his punches will actually have effect
So basically, since Cotto can't beat 'bigger' guys like Canelo, the solution to bring back the more 'effective' version of Cotto is to match him with 'smaller' fighters?

Sorry, but you could make that argument for every fighter on this planet.

I thought Cotto actually looked good with the style of boxing he used against the bigger, stronger, and younger guy.

Fighters more his size... Guys that will be 160 or under on fight night, not 170

You can't diss Cotto and say he is smoke and mirrors.. He fought competively and lost to a bigger younger guy..

And is Cotto really "BIGGER" than thurman or Porter or Andrade or charo???

Probably should have thought of that before deciding to campaign at MW. It's on him that Mayweather and Trout ran him out of 154.

Cotto earned my respect. He performed better than I expected. He withstood some very hard punches from Canelo and kept throwing punches back. What ultimately cost him the fight was Alvarez's size and youth. I have a hunch but cannot prove it that Canelo was close to a 180 lb on fight night. Did anyone noticed the size of that guy in the ring? That's heaviest I've ever seen him. He looked huge and because of it Cotto couldn't so much as put a dent in him physically.

He did throw the same combinations over and over again. I was surprised at how little creativity he showed, it's like Roach didn't even have a Plan B.

Canelo on the other hand demonstrated good punch variety. Sometimes it was the right hand getting through, sometimes it was a left hook to the body, and at other times it was uppercuts. He changed things up nicely to keep Cotto guessing.

He hired Roach and fought Delvin Rodriguez (espn fighter), Sergio Martinez who was a shell of himself and then fights Daniel Geale who is an contender at best. HBO brand Cotto as new and improved with the help of Roach. Which he beats those guys with any trainer.
