Yeah this was a necessary thread lol. Has anyone ever claimed Golovkin had the overall better record? Of course not. It's unfortunate Golovkin didn't have the luxury of a super six type tournament years ago.
There were obviously a lot of factors at play, for instance Golovkin lived and fought in Germany under crappy management, chasing a Felix Sturm fight for several years, which was the biggest fight for him in Germany. Obviously Sturm never fought his mandatory for over two years, GGG ended up wasting a lot of time. There were legal actions made and GGG was in a bad situation for a while. Fast forward to signing to k2 and getting on HBO. His debut was supposed to be against Dmitry Pirog, who ended up pulling out due to injury. Golovkin couldn't get big names or title fights for the life of him, until just this year in Lemieux. It would be great if Golovkin had the same opportunities as Ward has had but unfortunately that's not how the division has been, more guys chose to stay clear rather than fight.Comment
