GGG is not only mandatory but by holding the WBC interim belt he doesn't have to agree to any weight , and by law Canelo will have to give up the belt...
Now if GGG want money he can agree to Canelo or he can just let Canelo give him the beltComment

they are free to negotiate and try to make a deal. If they cant, then there are a few things that could happen:
1. If canelo just has no interest in the fight, he will be stripped, and GGG gets elevated to full champ
2. If Canelo DOES want to fight GGG but they simply cant agree on terms, then the fight would go to purse bid, at typical WBC money split (unless either side petitions WBC for adjusted split), and at 160 pounds. No catchweights are possible when a fight goes to purse bid.
3. Even if it went to bid, either side could still walk away after the bid if they didnt like the numbers. If Canelo walked away, he gets stripped and GGG is full champ. If GGG walked away (not likely), he would be stripped of the interim title, and Canelo would stay champ and fight whoever he wants.
There technically is also an option #4, which is that Canelo pays GGG some step aside money to hang on to the title for now, Canelo fights someone else on cinco de mayo, and they agree to meet next september or something. GGG would likely do the Johnson IBF mando in Feb, and maybe try and get the Lee-Saunders winner in May/June. The WBC has not really addressed if they would allow yet another step aside deal or not, but they probably would.Last edited by OnePunch; 11-22-2015, 07:49 PM.Comment
