It didnt jump from 125k. It was always 300k (3% of cottos $10 million contract). Cotto offered 125k instead of the 300k and WBC said nope......
Correct. But what you are missing is that COTTO needed the belt in order to get a better money split from Canelo. With no title to offer, this fight would have been 50-50, or maybe even 60-40 Canelo's way. The title gave Cotto the leverage to get more money, and thats why he made the step-aside deal with GGG. He figured the 800k would be worth several million in his pocket from a better split
