This past five to six years ever since boxing forums started and I was able to talk boxing and boxing history with people I started to get really into it again. To bad we didn't have the internet back in the '80's and boxing forums, it would have been a crazy time with people since the '80's are the last golden age of boxing. But the bug bit me again but not as hard.
Understandable, a family will consume our extracurricular s, glad you are back though, seems like the "seasoned" boxing fans from the 80's give the most respectful answers, probably because you DIDNT grow up in the internet era of boxing.

I did after Toney/Peter 1 and Quartey/Forrest. I thought both fights were robberies and just got tired of the BS. Plus I was in school so I didn't have HBO and Showtime so the sport became harder to follow.

This generation of boxing fan thinks if you are critical of certain fighters they like that you are nothing but a hater. And that in order to be a fan you have to belong to a fanboy clan and always make excuses and back said fighter up no matter what. I don't think that way.

I come from the belief of when I like I fighter I expect the best out of them everytime and i want them to try to push themselves to their limits and more. Plus I'm harder on guys I admire because I want them to be great.

I definitely took a break after May 2nd. It was such a downer, not because of who won but because it was one of the most awful fights I've ever seen. It was a tough time to be a boxing fan.

I think I really gave it little thought for a few months.

What brought me back I think, was when Golovkin-Lemieux was announced. I looked forward to the fight and while it wasn't the best, it was still much more entertaining than May 2nd.

I have been following the sport for roughly twenty years and I can tell you, this wasn't the only time I lost interest. I have had stretches where I just didn't think any quality fights were being produced along with the fact that there weren't any fighters I got excited to watch at the time.

All in all, though, these last fifteen years have made it tougher. In the '90s, I stayed tuned into it without even trying. It was so much easier then and I'm sure the '80s must have been unreal. All of the belts and the extra weight divisions have allowed the best to steer clear of one another for so long that no legends are really being made any more. Sugar Ray Leonard would have been nothing without Duran, Hearns, Benitez and Hagler. However, he DID fight them. Today, too many things get in the way, from promoters to organizations to the boxers themselves. Something needs to give.

I feel you bro, May 2 was horrendous, I thought about taking time off than too but I had to go back to logic on that and I shouldve known that fight was going to happen that way. Facts of the matter was it shouldve happened in 2010 and it didnt. But even logic wont keep me from stepping away from boxing at the pro level if this fight this weekend lays an egg. And yeah I agree with you too the last 15years have been rough especailly the last 5 with all these sanctioning belts.

Im going to be ordering the fight this weekend, but if this "mega" fight doesnt live up to its expectations, ends controversially, or unprofessionally I think I am going to take some time off from watching/supporting PROFESSIONAL boxing and focus on the amateurs, Im kinda tired of the premaddonas, alphabet organizations, lawsuits, & hypejobs. I hope this weekend proves me wrong because there are some great fights to be made but I wont hold my breath.

I stopped watching after Tyson bit Holyfield's ear. I thought boxing had become a gimmick with a circus-like atmosphere. I stayed away for about 3 years. Roy Jones became a huge star around the time I started watching again and after that Mayweather fights.

May second I didn't stop watching altogether only watched big fights, got back in to When Usyk fought in Agaust. Part of the reason I follow soccer very deeply to so its kind of on and off between the two sports.

Yes, sir. They started recognizing the WBO in the past fifteen. Three belts was too many, but still more bearable than four and the WBA with their extra belts. It's really unfair to the fighters as well. They shouldn't have to win four belts- just one. If it ever gets back to that, I think we'll definitely see a big turn around in the quality of fights.
