The 800k was for the fight to be sanctioned as a WBC title fight, by having GGG step aside as the mandatory challenger, which he shouldnt even have won the interim title in the 1st place. With Cotto being stripped of the title due to differences between WBC/Cotto & sanctioning fees, he's not fighting for the title no more, why should he still pay the 800k???

Why would he turn down 800k, if he knows he's going to get a shot at the belt anyway? What boxer doesn't want money, especially for doing nothing at all? I don't see how accepting a step aside agreement of 800k (knowing you have a shot at the belt afterwards) is not compatibile with wanting the belts? Especially as Canelo has a good chance of winning it...

What if Cotto wins? You are burning a bridge. You will have a belt, $800K and no top opponents at 154, 160 or 168 for the rest of your career. If Cotto wins, GGG is the next biggest money fight out there for him.
