dude's had such a strange career. he's the perfect example of a feast or famine fighter. sometimes you get the beast and the softie all on the same night

i remember when he was coming up as a 16 year old in the open division of the amateurs, and beating everybody up. dude had speed, power, looks, and charisma. i thought he was going to be the next oscar de la hoya. then he fought maidana, and he's never been the same guy since.

    i want to add this:
i don't think i've ever seen a guy so consistently fouled behind the head as ortiz was against maidana. he would lliterally reach around his head to **** him on the brainstem. this is early period maidana, where the idea of going to the scorecards must have seemed completely foreign
Yea, he is must-see TV..... they were all good fights.

But Ortiz is must-see TV, even just for some of his comments

The Berto fight was a cracker, both of those guys are rarely in a bad fight.

Definitely lol. And I just watched the Ortiz vs Maidana & Berto fights in the last month or so & had forgotten how fun those fights were. When Ortiz was on he was a bad mfer. That guy never comes back doe once he's gone I don't think, but I'll still be curious what he does.

From an interview I saw of him sounds like he's still getting acting roles & has some sort of deal still & seemingly the only reason he's fighting right now is cuz something he had planned fell thru so he's probably getting a complete KO 2 type cupcake in this fight which is probably what he needs right now anyway.

Never seen Ortiz is a boring fight. But I won't rest until I get Ortiz/Rios

Always entertaining regardless of who wins when the Oak is in the ring.

Seeing as neither Rios nor Maidana are likely to fight anytime soon, the best we can hope for is Ortiz-Berto II. Still a great fight even now.
