How did Cotto allegedly get away with not paying GGG's step aside fee when GGG stepped aside??? Supposedly thats $800k of this $1.1M Cotto owes. Seems like that is some non-standard **** & he'd be needing to pay GGG once GGG agrees. I know if I'm stepping aside I wanna get paid BEFORE I officially step aside. GGG should sue Cotto or the WBC for his $800k if he's legit owed that for stepping aside. That might be the real controversy here is GGG is getting f#cked over for almost a million dollars.
If he played his hand and refused to step aside he would lose out on that opportunity. He has 0 say in all if this. All he can do is sit back and wait to be given the belt once whoever win vacates.Comment

My understanding of step aside fees is you agree to accept a step aside fee for x $'s, like what happened months ago iirc & thats why Cotto vs Canelo got made in the first place, & you get the step aside fee once you agree to it (or within days of agreeing to it).
I didn't know you could not pay it when it was agreed to. Or was the WBC supposed to have collected it already & sent it to GGG & they f#cked up by not doing this sooner & now Cotto effed them over? Idk whats going on, I don't think who fights who matters, I don't think who wins matters, I don't care who should or shouldn't have the title or who should or shouldn't be fighting for it, I just think GGG shoulda had an extra $800k in his bank account already & someone owes him f#cking $800k now.Comment

WBC stated yesterday that the $800k was a GOOD FAITH agreement between promoters, meaning RN and K2. If this is true, this means that there's no real or physical contract, and now by Cotto not defending the belt, this agreement is void cause Cotto was stripped b4 the fight actually happening never DEFENDED the belt.
Now, Cotto stated yesterday that he and his team told the WBC, 2 months ago, that they were willing to pay $125k on top of the $800k and from what Cotto said yesterday, they wouldn't go above that, that's what they thought was fair. Now, the WBC could easily said rt there NO, 800k + 300k or no belt. This is why Cotto said that he's not willing to pay for the WBC mistakes.
This is me speculating, but either the WBC went back to K2 with hey, you need to take $175k cut for stepping aside and K2 was like **** Off or the WBC thought they could mustle Cotto by putting pressure couple of days prior of the fight and Cotto was like I told you 2 month ago, I aint paying no $1.1m for a belt.
Why I believe Cotto? cause WBC's actions. If Cotto was stripped or he resigned the belt, by their own rules GGG becomes the WBC MW Champ. Canelo wouldn't be able to fight for the strap, but they bent their rules again and will take Canelo's money for sanctioning fees and screwed GGG. I wont even be surprise if the pull a rabbit out of their hat and screw GGG even more allowing Canelo to have a voluntary defense in the 1st 90 day. After, I saw what the did to Martinez, nothing surprises me.Last edited by The Collector; 11-18-2015, 08:44 AM.Comment

I love Cotto, but he's been making some decisions that has dinged his legacy for me. For example, all these ****** "catchweights". In my book, no World title belt should ever be on the line if the fight is a catchweight. If a Middleweight world title fight isn't fought at 160lbs, then NO TITLE should be on the line.
When Cotto beat Daniel Geale last June, in his post fight interview he said that he is not a 160 fighter....thus separating himself further away from an eventual GGG fight.
And now this nonsense. So by trashing the belt, should he win, he has no mandatory anymore with GGG and can go back to 154.
Cotto's resume speaks for itself. He's never ducked anyone...until now.Comment

I would say GGG would have a leg to fight this on. But GGG just took a bout last month with Lemuix.Comment
