Ward has left 168 so lil g will move up now, he will not go anywhere near Ward, for the same reasons his fans dont want him to fight Ward, THEY KNOW HE'LL GET HIS ASS HANDED TO HIM. He'll fight Kov before he fights Ward, hell he just might fight a heavyweight before he fights against Ward. People wanted to believe Garcia was afraid of Matthysse, or Floyd was afraid to fight pac, and WHAT happened when they fought....Same will happen to lil g and his people know this. I don't think GGG can stay a 160 for long, the division has been pretty weak since Pavlik and Abraham left it.

Most divisions have hot and cold periods where as some are always hot like 147. I remember a few years back 135 was really hot when you had Broner, Crawford, Burns and DeMarco there and now its cold.

Comparing GGG to Hopkins and Hagler won't work because the division was better stacked during those times. To be honest Hopkins middleweight reign wasn't that impressive in terms of names, its the longevity that helped him. If Hopkins never went to 175 he would not be half the legend he is today. You can pick holes in his MW reign but he definitely took on some serious challenges at 175.

GGG will have to do something similar to be considered great, 160 division of today just won't cut it.

If Canelo wins I can see GGG/Canelo. There's also Johnson, Lee/Saunders winner, Quillin/Jacobs winner. Maybe even Lara. We're at least few fights away from GGG really considering a move up to 168 (unless a money fight like Froch becomes an option).

So unifying Middleweight and going to 168 wouldn't be enough these days. If golovkin listened to some of the fickle "fans" on this site,he'd be skipping 168 and fighting kovalev at 175 next just to prove that he's "good".

How the hell did he really expect 50/50 from Roy jones who already beat him, was the fighter of the decade, and everyones numero uno p4p.....he knew he couldn't beat Jones so he waited until he took some L's to take a risk




His competition at 160 was crappy and he holds and alphabet record for titles defenses, and the real record remains with Carlos Monzon who beat the lineal champion and had 14 defenses, Hopkins defended the lineal title 6 times.

Before he fought Trinidad his best wins were over washed up John David Jackson, Simon Brown, and decent Antwun Echols while the WBC, IBF, and WBO had their own titleholders



A lot of people don't remember him, but Lonnie Bradley would have given Hopkins a good fight in the mid to late 90s....he held the wbo title at 160 and had wins over former titlist Otis Grant and Simon Brown

Minus Al haymon fighters (inc Degale). Unless they find a way to pay them Handsomely Al's boys wont be on HBO. I also believe TopRank will steer clear of GGG, just a feeling. So his run at 168 wont be that great in terms of "opponents" either.
