Seems to get even worse for GGG

Well, the thing is, assuming Canelo wins (not a sure thing IMO) who else can he fight that is a big "Mega Fight"? He can probably sell one safer fight, but at 160 I can't think of a fight that currently would do half the business a Canelo-GGG fight would. So the Cotto fight is out of the window, Canelo won't fight him. There's no other big money fight at MW. Super Middleweight is a fairly weak division compared to a few years ago.
HBO will need big fights, it wouldn't surprise me if they did the same thing as with Canelo and Cotto this year where they gave both guys a set up fight in the spring for the big event in the fall, though GGG might fight twice. I can live with that.
I think Cotto, if he wins, has the option of going to 154 or 147. Canelo is already too big for 154. The fight will happen.Comment

Canelo can't duck him forever. Soon enough he'll have to face him. GGG is the WBC's mandatory anyway. You just want GGG to move up against Ward because you think he'll be exposed by another boring boxer. Because you know, that would help boxing so much. Having a feather-fisted boring fighter has done so much for the sport the past few years.Comment

Who is Hopkins to tell anyone when they need to move up? He was 40. Hopkins by your logic, was not grea at 160, and Hagler wasnt great at all.Comment

Everybody knows that the Super Middleweight division was not recognized until 1984. It was established in the 60s but no one cared for it and its titles were dismissed.
No one will ever hold that against Hagler.Comment

He should have gone up to fight Spinks. But he didn't. Maybe he was scared, huh?Comment
