Owning a football club is a billionaire's game, or at least very rich/wealthy.

4 or 5 ex Man Utd players, probably richer than Khan bought Salford FC, and they're basically part time players, not a full professional team and they still had to get a Billionaire from Singapore to have the major 50% share to bankroll the club, thats the kind of money you need to keep it operating.

Even Floyd wouldn't have that kind of money, nevermind Khan.
If bolton were in the Premier League then you'd have a point.

They are dwindling in the Championship with a crippling debt. It's not worth billions so you don't have to be a billionaire to buy a club like Bolton.

There are plenty of non billionaire owners outside of the Premier League in England.

He's not buying it himself. He'd basically just be the "front man" for a consortium.

Sounds like a really bad investment.

            100 mil? haha.

Absolutely not. Maybe like £25-30, and even that's expensive for where they are.

Plus, finances doesn't really go like that anyway.

I've heard the deal just involves Khan having future fight(s) at the Macron stadium. He won't be an actual investor.

I'm sure a league 2/Conference side can be bought for under a £1mill.

Do you know how much investment it is after actually buying the club and keep it afloat?

Hence the reason the Utd lot brought in a Billionaire early on, because if everything goes to plan and they start to move through the leagues, they're going to need someone on board who can spend serious money, build stadiums and training grounds etc..

Bolton are in a different position where they're already established but it's still a huge investment to keep it tickingover. I'd say a side like Middlesbrough are bigger than Bolton and likely to be Premier League next year again, and their Chairman is putting over £1m a month personally in to keep things afloat.

You might be able to buy a club, but the investment of running it in order to keep up with other clubs is where the big money is needed.

Indeed but the point of investment is to profit and build something bigger.

You need serious money to drag up a side like Bolton to the premier league and make them an established Premier League side.

Thats why a side like Bournemouth have managed to get up there, they're being funded by russian business man Maxim Demin.

I'm not saying it can't be done without wealthy owners, plenty have done it but the gap is widening these days and more and more billionaire's are snapping up Championship and League One sides
